Metacritic is good for a laugh sometimes. The user reviews for the new Star Wars movie are currently a dead-even split between positive and negative with hundreds on either side. Probably some bored rear end in a top hat metabombing it like they always do but the idea of something in the movie pissing off nerds that much is hilarious.

When I think "nerd" I think "uncritical consumption of nerd media" so I can't say it's bad they're battling and quibbling.

There is a huge split between audience and critic scores which is always good for a laugh, right now movie twitter is at "everyone who doesn't like this movie is a fanboy who will never be happy" mode which is one of many reasons why movie twitter is a joke

They bitched about TFA being too close to the OT and now they’re bitching about The Last Jedi deviating too far from it. Star Wars fans don’t actually like Star Wars, etc

Having seen the new Star Wars movie, it does a few things that people are either going to love or hate with no middle ground between. I'm not sure if it's all super nerds hating it since I'm a turbo-nerd myself and loved it, but Johnson takes a huge dump on the previous movie and it's glorious.

I’m a giant Star Wars guy who unironically reads Wookieepedia articles from time to time and I loved it. I have issues with certain aspects of it, but it’s miles above TFA and Rogue One, and at least on par with Return of the Jedi. But then again, I have opinions that run atypical to the standard Star Wars fanbase, and I’ve met and talked with Rian Johnson, so I was rooting pretty hard for the film to succeed.

I haven't seen it yet but Last Jedi being better than Force Awakens is pretty much a given since Rian Johnson is just a so much better director than J.J. Abrams. Like they're barely in the same ballpark. I enjoyed Force Awakens for the most part but it bothered me that they totally wasted the Raid dudes and didn't focus on what should've been the core romance: Poe and Finn. Also this better be in the film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtmGSJdvavY

Its strongest supporters are saying it's a troll movie. Are they all fans of WB corporation waging a proxy war against Disney corporation?

You are presenting a conspiracy theory in which a cabal of Ben Affleck fans is striving to control the media in order to make the latest Star Wars film appear slightly less popular than the previous Star Wars film, for no clear reason.

Well yeah, fundamentally the idea is that Star Wars 10 will probably make a billion dollars, therefore it's "not divisive", and that's synonymous with "good". So, evidence that Star Wars 10 is divisive (i.e. all the people saying they didn't like it) must have been falsified. Affleck enthustiasts ostensibly believe Affleck's film was good - but it only made a billion dollars, and therefore it must have been divisive. Affleck fans aware of the fundamental contradiction - a film cannot be both good and divisive - must have reconciled it by elevating Disney corporation to the level of supreme evil. Therefore ill spoken of Disney corporation and its products was likely engineered by Affleck enthusiasts. Case closed!

On twitter and both Star Wars threads here people have been pretty divided on the newest Star Wars brand film. That people concoct some conspiracy of devious trolls making reviews reflect this is loving wild. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to rage against the cabal keeping The Shawshank Redemption the highest rated film on imdb.

A certain subset of DC fans has a bit of a persecution complex. They need either RT scores or $$$ to validate their life choices, because their whole identity is invested in the media they consume. Marvel fans would be just as bad, but they're "winning" None of this has anything to do with the quality of a given movie.

Something funny about the new Star Wars movie is that I'm finally getting to experience a small sliver of what must have happened when Vader dropped his famous line in Empire Strikes Back. Fans back then must have been shocked and I know a lot of them thought he was lying. Something similar is playing out right now, where Person A tells Person B something and there are a ton of people now claiming that Person A must be lying. Even though the whole plot of the movie is that Person A has never lied to Person B, and has no reason to especially at that moment. It's actually really neat to experience first hand.
