You know, I'm sitting here and trying to work out how much a recruitment drive should actually cost. It's not cheap and in fact for highly skilled professional positions it may cost as much as a year's salary to hire someone appropriate for the position. But then these are border patrol agents; you're not even looking for a high school diploma, just if they can tie their shoes together. They have to recruit over a pretty huge region and that does drive the price up some. Still, I bet you could do it for $10k a recruit. The real expense is the screening process where they have to weed out anyone who isn't racist enough.

Plus, in California, because of "changing cultural values" and the 2016 marijuana ballot, they can barely find anyone who can pass a drug test.

i work with a guy who recruits engineers for a surgical tech firm. 40k a head is right about what they pay agencies to do that kind of specialized recruiting but 40k to find ex-military oorah guys who want to tool around in jeeps and harass people at border crossings sounds kinda ridic
