The security council tends to be the only somewhat pragmatic wing of the UN. Making veto-holding members acknowledge their responsability on an issue by forcing them to veto something against a proxy state is one thing and makes political sense, but a resolution directly against one of these veto-holders is pretty useless even by UN standards.

I dunno how true that is. The Ad-pocalypse thing might only be partially driven by advertisers not wanting to be attached to deplorable content.

It seems like they're trying to restrict what kind of accounts can earn revenue, which is a big change of pace from how it's been for the last 6-8 years where anyone with a adsense account could earn some amount of money.

As a white artist, this is absolutely true. The fact of the matter is that artists below a certain bracket of skill (in other words most artists) will always tend to draw and design subconsciously what they have been observing their whole lives, which most often means their own face and their family's faces etc. In other words, artists will default to drawing any person through a lens made of their own image. Girls will draw feminine boys and boys will draw butch girls. A Japanese artist once drew me as part of a "draw me/draw you" thread and it was Asian me. A lot of artists I know will draw women who look similar to their wives or daughters. Etc.

It's something that as an artist you absolutely have to be aware of and hopefully you've been taught observational drawing so you can begin to walk back your biological biases and rebuild your visual vocabulary based on actual study and analytical observations of a wide range of subjects, but such introspection and self awareness exists not in the realm of 2-bit political cartoonists, or indeed most casual artists.

As an illustrator and a white artist who's done some children's books and political cartoons, I can confirm. It's really really difficult to be self aware and still draw people accurately, especially outside of your "norm" or whatever.

Like you catch yourself drawing people outside your race when you realize "this person's nostrils are bigger than mine" and "this person's eyes are narrower". Most often, you're not even trying to be racist so much as, like you said, pulling off of your definition of what' s "normal" and exaggerating the things that stand out to you.

I mean, drawing Patrick Ewing with large nostrils is not inherently racist (because dude has some big loving nostrils) any more than drawing Mick Jagger or Steve Tyler with big lips is, but it's a hard line to walk, especially when you're doing a caricature. Doing a cartoon of Colin Kaepernick with a big giant afro might seem racist even though he has a huge loving afro.

Sorry, but I don't believe in this at all.

I think the most plausible Mueller result is a very long report with indictments on a bunch of people in Trump's orbit, but not Trump himself because indicting the sitting President is a legally tricky question, and Mueller will leave it as a political question as to whether Trump should be impeached. He will not even say himself whether Trump should be impeached or whether he should resign; "I let the facts and findings speak for themselves."

And then we get to the fun part where he doesn't get impeached.

I mean, people have this read of Mueller being a champion of constitutional government. Fair enough, that could be true. But a backroom deal to force the President to resign is not constitutional government. The big problem staring us in the eye amidst all this is that The Institutions rely on and believe in constitutional government, but a key part of constitutional government, congressional oversight, simply isn't working; and without it, the DOJ or career bureaucrats can't or won't conjure accountability out of thin air.

Edit: Trump already clears the impeachability bar by a country mile. Mueller's team piling up another 20,000 page indictment won't matter until Congressional Republicans put their big boy pants on.

the gop will impeach trump during his lame duck last year of presidency. He will be useless to their agenda by that point. And they get to do big boy impeachement attack people stuff instead of governing which they suck at.

Advertising the way that has been done for the last 100+ years just doesn't make as much money in the modern world, much less on the internet.

There are so many ad blocking extensions, programs, scripts, etc that I've seen only a handful of ads in the last 5 years on the internet unless they were hard coded into the site or otherwise into the content directly. I'm sure that's a majority experience for people my age.

Add into that millenials being cable cutters, and the prevalence of our using streaming sites (legal and illegal) over watching live TV or going to the theaters, and I'm kinda surprised that the ad driven model hasn't collapsed already.

That's why you're seeing things like the rise of the "ClapBack PR twitter" for companies. Normal ads don't work so instead you have Wendy's and Moonpies paying people to play at being a young, hip, sassy taste maker making GBS threads on people on twitter. Right now it get's decent play because it's still kinda novel (Like Arby's having a fairly talented nerd model maker producing nerd images out of their fast food) but in a few months when everyone from Purina to Activia are trying to act like their a sanitized version of a KM gif it'll die off too.

The people who want to believe Mueller's investigation is partisan believed that long before this story and the people who support the investigation aren't going to be swayed by something so obviously bullshit when the vast majority of TV news isn't biting on it.

These stories become embellished at warp 5 when you get a pathologic narcissist or grifter who starts a church, especially one that does outreach to marginalized groups.
