Yea, I'm fine at driving, just not straight up the enormous mountains that seem to be everywhere? Yes there are flat bumpy lands here and there, but the majority of the areas in between towns have enormous rocky mountains that aren't really meant for driving, and if you do take them, it takes forever. It's nothing like the Russia map, where you can essentially drive wherever the hell you want. Maybe I need to play it more to learn the routes that I can offroad at without driving up an enormous rocky mountain.

Also are they fixing the horrible shaking when you try to shoot out of driving cars?

Both the buggy and bike go at high speeds up hills and the truck does pretty decent as well. It's not like the Dacia or van where it literally won't accelerate on an incline

its buggy.

I was once following a truck that was following a van. Van ebrakes sideways and the guy hops out and starts popping the truck. The pussy in the truck veers off and I go full steam ahead, the plan is to hit his van ram it into the shooter. Well that certainly worked, it also insta-exploded us both and sent my SUV flying across the map. Tried to replay it to get the funny clip and pubg completely poo poo the bed and I had to hard-reset my computer

PUBG really, really needs a fully featured shooting range with infinite ammo and lots of stationary and moving targets to give you time to figure out how to really get comfortable with the game without playing against 99 other players and a ticking clock. Real bad.
And then all of that goes out the window with other players and their varying connections so you just have to get good on the spot.

I wouldn't say it goes out the window at all, but the connection issues are certainly another variable to consider.

Having a practice mode of some sort is one of the big features I'm eager for, and I wish we had some sense of where it will be in the timeline.

Rumor has it that CS:GO is getting a PUBG survival mode.

Hopefully this happens. I’d love to play PUBG in an engine that was remotely competently designed.

If that’s the case, nobody.

There’s supposed to be some new map called “island” with a bunch of datamined sounds that indicate a large variation of environments. If that map is small, yeah it’s going to be lame and pointless.

Yeah it would be stupid with hitscan weapons too. Guess we’ll see. I can’t imagine CS without hitscan though so, eh.

I unironically think if GSC was still together they could make a good Battle Royale game out of the X-Ray (STALKER) engine.

Hear me out: by Call of Pripyat they had a generally stable engine that worked well with at least 1KM square maps with tons of AI with their own individual behaviors (hunting, infighting, traveling to different locations), anomalies (some roaming) and moving artifacts (although that may have just been triggered when someone got close). That with what were some very impressive graphics for the time. Dump the AI, anomalies, and artifacts and you take a pretty big load off of the engine. Then put it on a real server rather than the client machine, I think it would work well.

This is cool and fun and I'm somehow marginally better than it than the real thing.

e: Also, good to see it has some of the same quirks as the original, such as rubberbanding.

It just feels like that pubg has been here for so long (relatively), is it even possible it can go anywhere anymore? It was in the right place, on the right time, and it's just getting bigger and bigger. I doubt any other game is going to be any better. Like minecraft or wow, they were there to stay despite the billion clones.

It would be awesome if it runs better than the Unreal engine, but I don't think you can compare the two until we see the CS engine run with 100 people at once on a map as big as PUBG's. I suspect CS:GO runs not so great as things scale up.

I actually sort of feel like PUBG is Ultima Online or Everquest, a genre-establishing hit that proves there is a hungry audience for this type of game, but out there lurking in the shadows is a real development team with the talent and resources to make WoW, or in this case, whatever comes next beyond the easy clones.

Personally I am really tickled by the idea of a battle royale game with For Honor or Chivalry style melee combat.

I don't know that any of the next games will be more popular in sheer numbers due to PUBG's primacy, but I think it's only a matter of time before someone makes a much better game inspired by it.

A melee pubg would be cool except for anyone being able to just decide to break off from combat and then run away from you, and that's not easily solvable without giving everyone a throwing spear or a bow which then ruins the point of it being melee only in the first place. IIRC Chivalry actually had some sort of catch-up mechanic but along with the classes and their minor speed differences it did gently caress all.

I agree with this completely. PUBG is a fun game and a great proof of concept, but it doesn't take long playing it to realize that as far as quality goes, let's face it... it's a real piece of poo poo. There's tons of room for improvement just waiting to be made by a more competent and better funded studio.

From what I've seen, PUBG is a true example of something being successful despite itself. The interface is garbage, the movement is garbage (please yes I love it when my character shifts and shuffles his weight around and re-positions his whole body if I turn my head so much as 30 degrees, oh and I love how laggy and glitchy just walking around can be and how much of a crapshoot something as simple as grabbing ledges is), and the optimization is famously garbage.

If some other company comes around to making a really pretty and really well-performing, slick playing take on a game like this, the sky's the limit.

I just wish 1100 series came faster, gtx 970 has vram to run the game only at low textures at 2560x1600.
