Cultural Marxist posted:I apologise in advance for being that guy, but is this game actually good then? It's an amazing 7/10 game. It reminds me of an Earth Defense Force title, where the graphics aren't that good, the gameplay is simple to a fault, and the entire experience is goofy as hell, yet it's also more fun than just about any other game of the same genre. You can play the game tactically if you want to, but the experience is usually chaotic and nuts as the people who play this game are all insane (in a good way). Ultimately I think it succeeds because it doesn't try to be something else... it doesn't try to be a tactical team vs team multiplayer game, with careful balancing and highly-designed classes. Instead it really does feel like a bunch of dumbass teenagers getting chased around the woods and murdered by Jason. I paid the full $40 at launch and haven't regretted it one bit! edit: how could I forget to mention? if you're actually a fan of the f13 movies, the game is also an amazing piece of fanservice and you should buy it instantly Polo-Rican fucked around with this message at 20:39 on Dec 19, 2017 |

I'd say it met or exceeded all my expectations, so if you're on the fence and already think it looks good, I'd say definitely go for it in the upcoming Steam sale. It'll probably be like $15, and I bought it at the full $40 and don't regret it one bit. Just be aware that it is an online game so you're gonna get some tryhard dickheads who think they're trolling geniuses, some uncommunicative people who are either braindead or kids (probably kids), and occasionally super high-level people who'll kick your rear end when you're Jason. But you'll also play with some really cool and chill people, overall it's not a bad community really.

Shenanigans are the only real way to play the game correctly. Basically to enjoy this game, 2 things must be true: 1. You don't care about and in fact can embrace jank as being part of the fun (the Bethesda Mantra). and 2. You do not take competitive multiplayer seriously like some kind of weirdo. If that describes you, then this is the game for you!

Thank you all for the replies, I’m really pleased that the game turns out to be good! So yes, I’ll definitely be buying it sooner rather than later, though sadly on PS4 so I won’t be able to play with steam goons. But thanks again for the posts!

I did the fireplace kill with Jason in offline mode and it gave me the accomplishment so if you’re chasing that graveyard kill (or 2) that’s what I would recommend.

Never thought I'd say this in a million years, but I kinda prefer playing online. It's fun and all, not having to worry about losing connection, no lag, KNOWING you'll get an 8/8 wipe every time... But snapping REAL people is so much better. Hahaha.

I'm using it more as a way to get more comfortable with the maps as Jason. And also experimenting to see just what the bots will do in various situations for funsies.

Yeah I can't see offline mode being anything more than just a place to practice maps or contextual kills. Hunting bots isn't fun.

I accidentally solved the computer password in completely the wrong way My PC is poo poo and the only way I can run it at a normal FPS is to make the texture resolution hilariously bad. I couldn't make out the word guess hints and figured they couldn't be that important. Meanwhile I found the password thing, noticed it stopped at six letters, and thought back to the radio where the dev talks about getting phone calls from Pamela saying to honour Jason's memory. After trying a couple words I ended up getting the right one for the most wildly wrong reason I'm still stuck on the masks, I've got 3 through 9 but can't figure out what order they want them in and the Part 3 diorama. I've put Ali, Jason, and Chris in every possible place including the accurate one, but the game won't give me credit. The only other Jason toy was Part 9, and I already got the badge for that diorama, so I don't think I have the wrong Jason toy. but I had to stop playing to go to work I hope it saves progress, but honestly I could make up the progress in a couple minutes. I didn't get very far.

Is the Virtual Cabin 2.0 part of the main game now or is it the separate "game" you bought? Because I have the latter and it isn't any different right now, so I guess they just included it into the main game?

I'm pretty sure now that Uber Jason will just act like a normal Jason. We had mad plans and ideas before about how he'd be a souped up version, like resurrected if the team killed Jason in a certain way on the Grendel or whatever, but if you look at his character model in the cabin you can see just sliiightly under his mask. In the film it's loving vacuum formed to his face, but it definitely looks like we'll be able to unmask him in-game. God, that reveal had me so pumped. I love this drat game and these dumb as poo poo movies.

I couldn't help myself but to buy the Part VII kill pack. They're not *quite* as good as the Part IV kill pack - but there's this one where he slices off the front part of your face / jaw / neck in a vertical cut, then palms what's left of your head clean off.

One thing i loved reading about in the VC is how Kane Hodder told the actors he was "killing" that he wasn't going to pull any punches, and later reading that the guy playing Julius was genuinely punching him in the gut full force during the boxing scene. Hodder is nothing if not consistent

Last night introduces us to who is hands down the greatest and most amusing pubby player of all time. Dude had an extremely thick accent and his English seemed to be limited to "COME ON BABYYYYYY!" and "OH gently caress YOU!" Burk (who was Jason at the time) let him live because of how entertaining he was. Sadly next match showed that he was an incredibly boring Jason.

Burk (who was Jason at the time) let him live because of how entertaining he was. Sadly next match showed that he was an incredibly boring Jason. We half joked about adding him to the discord he was so good. AI BOT TRIP REPORT: After the goon rounds last night I decided to experiment with the bots. I ran 4 games on 4 different maps and left the bots to their own devices with no interference from me to see what they would do. Hard AI on all but the last match. Game One: Packanack (full) This game ended up being something of an outlier. The bots didn't manage anything until 11:35 into the match when I heard gas being put in a car. But from then up until the two minute warning, nothing else. I finally went to check up on them and they had all congregated in a single cabin up north. Then I saw the problem: Chad had the battery and was running around like a madman. Immersion achieved. Game Two: Packanack (small) Figuring a smaller map might give them a better chance to repair a vehicle, my faith was rewarded when 5:23 into the match I heard a car roar to life...and then go nowhere on my map. I would later discover a Tiffany still in the car, endlessly backing into a rock. Turns out that when the cars spawn on dirt paths there isn't enough room for the AI to successfully maneuver. At 9:15 someone called the cops. Progress! Game Three: Higgens Haven (full) By far the most successful bot round. AJ started a car at 3:12 and successfully drove it to near the exit. I stopped her to see how the bots would react to an abandoned car. Two minutes later an Adam and a Mitch got in and escaped. Cops called at 5:35. Second car had gas in it by 7:00. Game Four: Crystal Lake (full) At the 1:37 mark I heard gas going into a car. A record! In fact both cars were fully repaired by the 8 minute mark, but it seems they never found the keys because neither car was started. Cops called at 13:20 Final Game: Jarvis House I made a discovery here: boats don't spawn in AI matches. Jarvis house spawned with one car and nothing else. Nothing got done. Stray observations: Standing near the cop exit results in bots turning and running from you until they reach a minimum safe distance, so they'll never escape if you just stand there (a Fox did try to edge around me but ran back when she got too close). AI will make a token effort to swerve around you in cars, but they drive too slow for that to be effective. The AI seems to prioritize calling the cops when possible. Small sample size so I need to keep experimenting. Could be because only one item is required vs cars needing 3. You can get the bots to team kill if you set it up right. AI *loves* to hide, and when they don't do it in plain view of you, they aren't bad at it. They never really make noises unless their fear is already maxed while hiding. AI knows how to use firecrackers more effectively than any player I've seen. They seem to have some amount of control over where they toss them. I have yet to see a bot use a bear trap. Bots loot cabins fairly effectively. I've had a Tiffany with *3* pocket knives and they will use med spray when possible. Bots won't attempt a kill, but the high strength ones *will* fight you unless they have max fear. And even then, Bugsy might keep fighting. Bot matches don't duplicate counselors. Tommy can hide like a champ.

I had one of those games too where all of the campers more or less went to one spot...except Chad, Chad had commandeered a car and was aimlessly joyriding by himself on the other side of the map

I didn't play around with the bots too much, but once an AI Kenny got the phone repaired and was in the middle of calling the cops but immediately hung up and ran out of the cabin the second I was nearby. On Hard the AI in-general plays like a team of newbies who are probably also kids trying to wrap their brain around WASD controls and who constantly run into trees and rocks. Also the few rounds I've had against AI, none of them ever went into the water at all. They'd run to the edge of the water but would rather run back straight into me than attempt to swim.

I watched a bot on Higgins find gas on the west side of the map and then swim across the stream towards a car at the Higgins lodge so I'm thinking the choice to swim has to do with effIciency of route to a current objective.

I chased a Kenny into the water last night on Higgins over by the main house. The water was too shallow to actually grab him or perform a loving water kill until he was away from the shore far enough. Also somehow there were three god drat shot guns on the map and no Tommy. But I got a couple of environmental kills which was pretty nice. The bots are pretty dumb on Normal and got caught on rocks periodically. The match ended when Vanessa ran into a closet as I was standing outside the window. She didn't try to escape when I barreled in, but she did before I could get the closet kill so I just hung her on the wall. I hope they patch the bots next patch.
