I'm not sure I believe this or if it's even really necessary because I'm pretty sure republicans would just cum at the idea of letting dems take the fall for PAYGO issues.

If it passes today, the signing deadline expires on Dec. 31. It's a pocket veto at that point.

(He has 10 days after passage, excluding Sundays, to sign it or it's a default veto)

Re- unionchat

Yes union power/funds can be abused, but you cave in someone's head with a claw hammer. The positive protections offered by unions FAR outweigh any bullshit perpetrated. I think it has to do with the same problem that helps demonize regulations - A poor understanding of what these things actually are. Unions and Federal regulations are there to protect you, the citizen, from predatory rapacious businesses, who are loudly whining about said muzzle. I know how cheesy it can sound sometimes hearing "awareness can solve this problem" but in this case it would be strong medicine.

While demonization of unions is a factor, it's always been a factor.

Unions right now face some truly huge legal and "physical" hurdles that they haven't felt before. There are a lot of legal hurdles that didn't exist in the union heyday, and striking workers face unprecedented competition from automation and international workers.

Said another way, it's hard to strike effectively when there are no legal barriers to scabs AND the capitalist can just build an all robot factory in mexico instead.

Let me put it to you this way. In the early 1900's, workers in scandinavia/western europe were about as disenfranchised as you could possibly get them, and massively, incomprehensibly poor. Poor enough to abandon their homes and their lives and go to america.

They had no power, no influence, no organisation. They started building their unions from scratch, having even less power, less organisation and less of everything than the fragmented unions and workers/employees of america have today.

https://wagingnonviolence.org/feature/how-swedes-and-norwegians-broke-the-power-of-the-1-percent/

They succeeded after a long and hard struggle.

There will be no revolution, there will be no quick reform into that nordic welfare model Bernie Sanders and some people itt are dreaming of. It doesn't happen like that. It happens when powerful, popular movements get together and demand it.

https://www.jacobinmag.com/2015/08/national-review-williamson-bernie-sanders-sweden/

and the only way to do that - historically speaking - is through getting together and creating labour unions. Civil disobedience. Protests. Unification of all unions into a massive union - not a union by the american model, but by the scandinavian model. Naysayers contend that's impossible in the US. I don't know. Have you actually tried? I mean, actually tried? You all seem to still have the right to assembly? Organisation?

https://www.thenation.com/article/after-i-lived-in-norway-america-felt-backward-heres-why/

If the scandis could do it during the worst times imaginable, having no political power and no influence and no money and unions being literally illegal and getting murdered by a literal private army owned by rich people, I don't entirely understand why you all can't do it. Are things just not bad enough yet? Because looking at your president, congress and senate, things seem quite bad for you. If it's a matter of public opinion, public opinion (and perception) can and will change with effort, because there's a limit to even stubborn, wilful ignorance.

But yeah, maybe you're right. Maybe the US is just too darn exceptional for anything like actually uniting the population in their own best interest to work. I mean, it's only been successful just about everywhere it's been seriously tried.

scandinavia is much smaller. what your saying is closer to changing all of europe at the same time. Sure the polish(california) could do it left to themselves but not if spain(texas) is resisting.

also half our nation is brainwashed

also we have it pretty good things arent bad enough

I know I'm getting a little tinfoil with this but I strongly suspect that at some point around the time they brought on Kelly, a twenty-fifth-amendment conversation was had, and they decided to go with "official babysitter" instead. Kelly has an amazing amount of power. Total control over access to the president and the information said president receives? He's practically a Grand Vizier.

If this were a different situation Kelly's practical seizure of control would be a much bigger story, but everyone's just glad to think someone relatively sane is in charge for a change.

The upside to this tax bill is that if Democrats take back all of Congress and get the presidency in 2020 (unlikely but not impossible), and they get their heads out of their asses (even less likely), they will be able to repeal this bill and then get their own 1.5 trillion on top to play with, and fit it into reconciliation rules needing only 50 votes in the Senate. That means nearly 3 trillion dollars available to them to do whatever they want. Even more if they decide to tax the rich more than they have been before the Republican tax scam became law. That's enough for free college for everyone, or to put into place universal healthcare, or get rolling with a basic income, or nearly anything. And the net result will be that we're at the same place we are today in terms of the deficit. For all the whining that the Republicans will undoubtedly come up with about the debt, it can correctly be argued that the Democrats are simply trading tax cuts for the rich for whatever socialist dream they want to implement.

can you imagine if this years gop fuckery is the stepping stone to a 5 trillion dollar socialist program in 2020?

1.5 trillion removing this tax cut bill
1.5 trillion of our own allowed debt increase
2 trillion of increased taxes on the rich

Also, is anyone else disturbed by how close events are following 2009-2010 in parallel? One party wins control of all three houses, an unpopular piece of legislation is on the table, the opposition starts to win huge victories in off-year elections, including a MASSIVE coup in a state heavily tilted in favor of their opponents, and the unpopular legislation is passed anyway.

The result last time was Republicans sweeping back into power in the House and cutting the Democratic majority in the Senate by 2/3. What will happen this time, I wonder?

We’ll see. There was a point during the recount where officials took a vote away from Yancey, saying it was improperly counted. He could be arguing for that one.

Edit: and not all ballots were hand counted during the recount. They ran them through the machine again and the took a look at any that were rejected to see if the vote could be determined.
