IIRC, every new feature added after Horizons release is part of it. Not just planetary landing, but also multi-crew, engineers, ship-launched fighters, commander creator and I guess also aliens. But I am not sure, I might be completely wrong.

Well it also adds engineers which I would say is pretty important.

Frontier is notoriously bad at defining/advertising their features correctly. When Horizons launched it went from a season pass, to a separate game on steam (!), to dlc. On a positive note, I got my email gifting me the Special Effects skin for donating during their livestream this year. It's just a Sidewinder skin, so I almost didn't redeem it, but it turns out it comes with a cool exclamation point decal that can be used on any ship.

After bumming around in a RES, I have to say the T-10 is not very much fun for bounty collecting. Turns so loving slow and it’s shields just aren’t that great due to the PD situation. I still prefer my all lasers 400km hyperlight drifter clipper with shields that never fail and I think I’m just going to use the T-10 for mission running.

You cut yourself off from Engineers, therefore from PvP builds, and most of thargoid and guardians interactions.

So I've been playing this game off and on for about 30 hours over the last year, and I just broke two million credits and have a decent ship with a good cargo capacity and it's all just from hauling cargo and doing cargo missions and something happened to me yesterday that really pissed me off. I decided to branch out. So I took a salvage mission. It was impossible to complete with just the instructions the game gave me, so I had to look up a guide. That was annoying by itself, but what really sucked was that when I salvaged the cargo, I got an e-mail telling me that my destination had changed, but that I'd get a bonus if I took it to the new base. Fine. I went to the updated system and there was no such base. It was not there. So I googled it, and discovered that the base was there, but was planetary. Okay. How do I land on planets? Oh, gently caress. Turns out I need to pay another twenty real-life bucks to complete my mission. gently caress you, Elite. gently caress you.

Pretty sure you can get the whole package for under $24, so as someone who has sunk several thousand hours into the game, it's totally worth the price and the expansion only being ~$15 extra over the base game is insane!

The question was "can I get a good idea of if I'll like the game without buying the expansion". The answer is yes. It doesn't add much to the game that isn't in the base game as far as "this game sucks" or "this game rules". If you like the base game you'll like the expansion. If you have the base game the expansion isn't different enough to sway that.

OP : put in a request to Frontier support explaining and they'll probably give you the Cr and rep or whatever back, and add it as a bug in game to be fixed. Nice piece of fish posted:What? Depends on what you want it for. The Federal Dropship basically tries to be a flexible multipurpose ship, like a baby Python. Whether i succeeds in this is up for debate. The Federal Assault Ship meanwhile is basically a bigger, tougher, not quite as agile Vulture with a pair of secondary C2 slots - it's not nearly as 'cost effective' as the Vulture is, but when tooled up, it's a great fun murder boat with more flexibility. If you've ever flown a Vulture and gone 'god I wish I had a slot or two to throw some missile launchers/torpedo pylons on here', the FAS is worth looking at. The Federal Gunship meanwhile is all about the dakka, dakka, dakka. Seven hardpoints (one of those a C3) and a giant power distributor mean you can fit a hilarious amount of kit in the thing. It's also the smallest effective ship (shut up Keelback, nobody loves you) that can carry a fighter bay, so if you want to tootle around in a fighter the FGS is great for what it does - the next-up ships that can carry a fighter are the T9 and the Anaconda. Gort posted:Still kinda that the general-purpose ships haul considerably more cargo than the largest ships that specialise in hauling cargo. The difference is that the dedicated haulers are all *really loving cheap* for what they can carry in cargo. The T6 costs a little over a million and can easily carry a hundred tons of cargo, while the Asp can carry about the same amount of cargo (when fit right) and costs 6M base. The T7 is what, 17 million or so, and the Python is 56 million for the base hull. The T9 costs 76M, the Anaconda 146M. The whole point of the Type-X series (excluding possibly the Type-10 Defender) and to lesser degree the whole Lakon lineup, is to get you cheap and cost-effective ships specialized in their given role. Lakon Industries, bringing you the ships you want, with the prices you want.

It's worth noting that unlike the Vulture, the FXS-series are hull tankers. This makes them more vulnerable to missiles and torpedoes - in particular the FAS' shields can fail frighteningly quickly if you manage to catch a solid salvo.

I can say that with lasers and an slf it becomes quite good for cruising high res and scanning pirates at a distance while the cops dunk on condas, but it still smells like a cow, runs like a cow and I seriously miss my cobra. (Or a DBX). It's more of a ship you use when you need money and do trading than a mission runner. I think I will will just keep it near Maya for the impromptu rescue missions.
