When a startup or other private company wants to become publicly traded, it can be extremely profitable to raise capital through an initial public offering. Because an IPO is based on people overpaying for an investment due to being blinded by hype in the best case, it's closely regulated. An ICO is for the same purpose, except instead of a company being invested in by buying securities, it's a crypto currency being invested in by buying that currency... from the company that is launching the currency. This is hilarious illegal because the SEC doesn't care and basically get to define their own mandate. Are people giving money to someone with the expectation that they're making an investment? That's in the SEC mandare

I don't think I'll ever be able to vote for a Republican. They're just so transparently acting in bad faith and don't seem to actually have any actual values besides (further) enriching the (super) wealthy or any interest in improving America. I guess it's been pretty obvious that that's where they've been heading since Obama was elected, but the repeal of the individual mandate really really spells it out for me. Like, they are intentionally breaking the insurance market so they can blame it on Obamacare/Democrats (they will 100% do this). Literally everyone knows this is going to gently caress people up and it's transparently obvious that they just don't care and can't be bothered to address it because they want to pin it on democrats.
