Droogie posted:An autopsy report had been released in March of this year that gave no insight other than two details – Miller was decapitated post-mortem and that seminal fluid was found on the man. No one could say whether it was his or not because presumably no one in charge cared. That was literally the last thing learned about the case that’s been made public as far as I’m aware. And most of the articles detailing this again used mugshots of Miller, no doubt a tactic to make this man more distant from the general population. Lmfao "Hm we found some semen here" "Should we check if it's JO semen or a possible clue to the killer?" "Nah"

The Albuquerque police found a hand sticking out of the dirt in a vacant lot two years ago, dug up a body, and proceeded not to bother investigating any further: https://www.abqjournal.com/607164/possible-human-remains-found-in-nw-abq-lot.html It amuses me that they didn’t bother working through the night because it was “too dark”. What I've been inferring from this thread overall for a long period of time is that if you want to be a serial killer, move out to the desert states because they apparently don't give a gently caress.

Droogie posted:Guys. GUYS. It could be two unrelated deaths but its hard not to see similarities, considering its the same time of year, the same city, and similar mutilations. My gut says it's a serial killer just getting started and it looks like he's ramping up each death. If it is just the one guy, he's dumping the bodies pretty prominently so it feels like this is the beginning of something, instead of feeling like he's killed before and no one has found the bodies yet. But I guess he could already be a serial killer for all we know. Spooky stuff Droogie, keep us posted.

However, because REMOVING a judge is often difficult, and because they wield so much power, when you get someone objectively terrible things can be really, REALLY bad. There's also the "Kids for Cash" scandal where TWO judges (Mark Ciavarella and Michael Conahan) got kickbacks from Robert Mericle, who owned two private juvenile detention facilities, to sentence kids to prison for incredibly minor offenses.

That's not to imply everything is always hunky dory forever if judges are appointed (see: that American guy from last week who basically hadn't had anything to do with a court since he graduated law school in 1999, unnerving also) but seriously, your job as an impartial arbiter of law shouldn't hinge on approval ratings. Not just judges, they elect prosecutors in America. That's a mindfuck too far for me.

I don't know how widespread the practice is, but in the county where I'm originally from, if the sheriff gets in trouble, the coroner becomes sheriff. In the past 25 years, three sheriffs have been involved in crimes and were removed from the post. Yep, the coroner has become sheriff all three times. Thankfully, special elections were quickly set up get a new sheriff in charge. For the curious, the sheriff troubles have been: a) embezzlement, b) being a doofus by giving guns back to criminals after they're released from prison sentences and c) brutality. In the case of c) deputies roughed up a suspect. The sheriff was so legitimately proud of "how we do it here in [shithole] county," he showed the tape at a sheriff's convention. Even they were disgusted by it.

If I take a gun, load it, and then head downtown and kill someone it doesn't matter who I kill. That's first degree murder. I set out with the intent to kill someone. The fact that the someone is a random anyone is irrelevant. Proteus Jones has a new favorite as of 05:11 on Dec 25, 2017 |

I don't think attempted murder requires that you intend to kill a specific person does it? It’s actually a famous legal theoretical question. "I shoot someone in the heart, thinking I was killing them. They were already dead. What am I guilty of?" Turns out attempting murder isn’t just failing to extinguish someone’s life, but attempting to take a life.

Back in 2006, the remains of a mummified woman were found in a tent off a highway in California. It was clear she was mentally ill. In the tent were bibles, a Harry Potter book and on the outside of it, the words "No go, no eat, no drink, murder" were written with tape. There were no signs of foul play. I've read about a lot of Doe cases and what made this one stand out was the fact that there was an actual picture of her (a mugshot) instead of a reconstruction. She'd been arrested earlier that year for tweaking on the side of a road. With the woman's face out there, it seemed strange that she never was identified so I assumed that her family simply didn't give a poo poo about her. Thankfully, I was wrong. Earlier this week, she was identified as Christine Kuhn, a 41 year old missing woman from DC. The matching DNA sample was provided by her daughter. https://patch.com/california/souths...uthsanfrancisco http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/593ufca.html Celery Face has a new favorite as of 07:10 on Dec 25, 2017 |
