Slim Pickens posted:A fuckoff huge octocopter could probably lift even one of Nolan's imax rigs, but maybe it was just cheaper and more reliable to stick with existing helicopter camera rigs. An IMAX rig weighs about 200 pounds (a 2D camera is only about 42 pounds, but a film reel only carries about 90 seconds of film and the battery alone is 6 pounds), and the highest drone capacities I've seen for anything reasonably sized is 10 kilograms.

Well gently caress, there's your answer then. I didn't realize the imax rigs were so heavy.

While you can't mount an actual imax rig on a drone (you need a manned fixed/rotary), you can get a red helium 8k in a drone gimbal, and it'll probably compare quite favorably.

Instead of just war porn maybe some context? Who is this and what did they shoot down? I see the dead guy and I see L-39...did they shoot down an albatross? A lot of Syria’s MiGs weren’t airworthy at all, or they kept the best maintained ones out of the air for this reason.

LUBE UP YOUR BUTT posted:does the chute covering his body mean he managed to eject but got caught on the ground? Probably. Or the chute didn't open properly and he fell to his death. Or he bled to death from shrapnel wounds after ejecting. Good riddance, one less dude spending all day dropping bombs on civilians.

I don’t think this was chlorine though. I don’t have to support anything related to the Syrian regime to still think that strafing rebels fighting against your government is a legitimate conduct of your duties.

Sure, but the SAAF is basically War Crimes Inc. and I can't imagine they're putting random conscripts in the pilot's seat. Anyone who had any misgivings about indiscriminately bombing/gassing civilians would have defected years ago. Anyone still flying for Syria is almost certainly a well trusted, loyal officer who knows exactly what they're doing. Yeah they probably don't plan their own missions but by now every one of their pilots has to have carried out MANY purposeful attacks on civilians. gently caress em, they all deserve worse.

I seem to remember more than a few SAAF defecting at the start of the conflict. It made the news a couple of times. Dudes left on a mission, said nope, and landed in Jordan or something.

Putting it in this thread since it's basically an explosion of testosterone. Remember that video of the goose-stepping, high-kicking, flamboyant outfits, and even more flamboyant gesturing at this change-of-the-guard ceremony at the Wagah border between India and Pakistan? Turns out they decided it wasn't outlandish enough, so they apparently went for a full-on dance-off. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rgyB4xkeXQ
