Maybe now they can just make a simple stand alone movie. I enjoy the Alien series but it's gotten to like Halloween levels of being up it's own rear end in terms of lore. I say gently caress it, give it to someone like Saulnier and just make a spooky, tense movie about an alien loving up a spaceship.

Funny thing is, Covenant pretty much set a conventional Alien movie up. Most of the boring and pointless seeking-out-your-own-creators stuff from Prometheus has been jettisoned, we got the initial origins of the xenomorphs, and now we can continue on with the evil aliens eating a bunch of scared people.

Covenant was ok, but the issue was that it only got interesting in the last half hour or so.

The thing is, you could make the Alien universe a lot bigger if you just throw aliens around into different genres and situations. It doesn’t just have to be spooky ships with aliens. It could be a political thriller about someone trying to take down W-Y or what what would happen if W-Y used the aliens as bio weapons.

You could go on forever and keep things relatively stand alone.

Something like this would have terrible word-of-mouth the minute it's revealed that there's no Aliens in your Aliens movie, though.

e vvv I get that reading is a skill, but I was specifically quoting an example that would generally be alien-less or alien-light :colbert:.

Alien movies are about the characters dealing with the alien. They can’t be the main main focus.

What? That's like saying you'd watch a Godzilla film without giant monsters, a zombie movie that spent most of its runtime with the livestock, a movie about space truckers, or a movie about a functioning Hadley's Hope. It's kinda in the title of the franchise. It's not Humans, after all.

poo poo, look at the situation we're discussing. We're not getting another movie because of Covenant wasn't an Alien movie for most of its runtime, and the previous movie in the chain was an Alien without any Aliens (minus the post-credit thing).

You know, the people who are in the movie to get eaten because it's a friggin' zombie movie, and nobody is there for whatever variation on "witness man's inhumanity to man" message injected in to try and claim it's something more than a zombie film. Again, it's about what you're watching the movie(s) in question for, and you're not watching a zombie film for it's subtle takes on the human condition.

Sometimes there's exceptions - Zombieland is my favorite zombie film because none of the main cast dies - but every zombie movie is about the zombies. Bringing it back to the Alien franchise, there's a reason why the Ripley-crying-over-her-recently-deceased-child got cut from the film.

And then wakes up, the winner of Series 7, and just goes "poo poo."

There's quite a few good ones, actually.

A large part of Peter Jackson's Dead Alive is the main character taking care of zombies instead of actively trying to kill them. Return of the Living Dead spends about half it's run-time following the zombies and the whacky ways they trick us into being eaten. Return of the Living Dead 3's 2nd main character is a zombie throughout. Fido is heavily about it's zombie population. Dead & Buried, without spoiling too much, is all about the zombies (though they're not really like normal zombies). Plus lower-budget horror comedies like Dead Heat and Idle Hands.

K. Waste's Beavis edit is good as hell. Is there a list of all the editing that was done?

K. Waste posted:

Devotional Video edit of Beavis finished. Running time: 2hrs 54secs including credits.

Working from 1080p transfer of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice - Ultimate Edition, with very minor use of 720p transfer of theatrical cut for ref.

New to edit:

1) Applied black-and-white filter with some instances of isolated red and green.

2) Title shot of Gotham movie theater is composite of theatrical and ultimate edition. Title now simply reads Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, graduated blur effect as the shot fades up in order to ease transition between 1080 and 720p sources.

3) Minor cut to Indian Ocean/discovery of Kryptonite scene, first shot of the two divers walking up the beach with the Kryptonian meteorite wrapped in towel removed.

4) Minor cut to Nairomi establishing scene, now begins with Lois turning to camera in response to Jimmy Olsen, removing coke bottle being opened and title card.

5) Significant cuts to scene at Nairomi militant camp and fallout from Jimmy Olsen getting shot:
- After Agent Olsen is killed, only the first two shots in drone control room are shown, slightly abbreviated to remove pause between shots. All visual references to and dialog with codename "Python" are cut.
- Transition shot of Nairomi militant general latching door from theatrical cut included before Lois says "I didn't know."
- Minor cuts to KGBeast and the mercenaries massacring the militants for quicker pacing.
- KGBeast lights the torch of the flamethrower, but we do not see him incinerate the dead militants.
- Abbreviated version of shot in drone control room, removing audio and visual references to codename "Python."
- Scene ends with Clark clowning the Nairomi general and saving Lois. Transitions to scene of Gotham police officers watching the Gotham/Metropolis game.

6) Minor cut to scene of Lois arriving home at her apartment for quicker pacing.

7) Significant cuts after Lois discovers bullet in notebook.
- Fallout/discovery of the scene at the Nairomi militant compound shown in flashback.
- First onscreen appearance of codename "Python."
- Opening shot of their arrival on horseback eliminated in favor of wide shot with helicopters arriving.
- Medium-wide of "Python" entering the gates of the village removed.
- First shot of the incinerated corpse against the wall removed. Instead cuts from the grieving women directing "Python," to the pile of corpses.
- Wide shot of "Python" entering the general's compound and finding Lois ushering away two grieving women removed. Instead cuts from shot of the pile of corpses to Lois recovering the journal with the bullet in it as "Python" approaches from behind.
- Last shot of Lois turning to acknowledge "Python" removed.
- Cuts to Senate subcommittee hearing from the Nairomi "witness," scene shown in full.

8) Minor cuts to bathroom argument/love scene for quicker pacing.

9) Minor cuts to scene of Lex briefing the senate subcommittee leaders on Kryptonite and metahuman thesis for quicker pacing.

10) Minor cut to scene of Bruce preparing for the library fundraiser, shots of him turning around and considering Robin's costume removed.

11) Minor cut to Clark 'interviewing' Bruce, removing line about "freaks dressed like clowns" before Lex interrupts them.

12) Minor cuts to scene of Lois having the bullet examined, removing first two-shot, quicker pacing.

13) Minor cut to transition to scene of Clark researching stories on the Bat brand, cutting from Lois looking at the screen in the lab to reverse shot of Clark looking at his screen, eliminating establishing close-up of Clark.

14) Scene of KGBeast commissioning prisoner "Iron" to kill the branded prisoner eliminated. Film now cuts directly from Wally in Senator Finch's office to the shanking scene.

15) Minor cut to bathroom interview scene between Lois and Secretary Swanwick for quicker pacing.

16) Significant cuts to scene where Lois interviews Secretary Swanwick off-the-record.
- Starts wide, cuts from "Someone wanted Superman to look guilty" to close on Swanwick saying "The metal was developed by a private company."
- All but one flashback to the Nairomi scene and accompanying dialog are eliminated.
- Scene ends as Swanwick tells Lois that Lex hired private security contractors, flashing back to KGBeast beginning the massacre, ending scene on gunshot, cutting directly from KGBeast firing to Wally being screened at the Capitol building.

17) Minor cuts to scene of KGBeast killing the Nairomi "witness," beginning scene on lateral close-up rather than wide of the station and showing KGBeast creeping up on her.

18) Minor cut eliminating cut to black between Bruce seeing the Capitol bombing and Lois trying to gain access to the scene.

19) Eliminated scene of Alfred chopping wood and returning to see the news of the bombing on TV and discovering Wally's returned checks which Bruce has left behind. Film cuts directly from Clark leaving the scene at the Capitol to LexCorp after Bruce's raid.

20) Minor cuts to scene of Bruce discovering Lex's file on Diana, eliminating security footage of her at the ATM machine, instead proceeding directly from the photo of her getting into the luxury car, to Bruce finding the WWI photograph of Wonder Woman.

21) Significant cuts beginning after Clark's 'disappearance' and Lois watching CNN reports of anti-Superman protests, eliminating:
- Clark arriving at the base of the mountain and the interaction with the Peruvian locals.
- Lois watching the report on the investigation of Wally's apartment.
- Interstitial wide-shot of Lex looking off into the horizon
- Lois going to Wally's apartment.
- Lois calling her friend from the lab and learning that Wally's wheelchair was manufactured by LexCorp and lined with lead.
Hence, film now cuts directly from Daily Planet offices to Clark at the peak of the mountain.

22) Significant cut to scene of Diana receiving Bruce's email with her WWI photograph. Now ends as Diana opens the cache of metahuman folders, but ends before looking at any of them, cutting directly to Bruce in the MechaBat suit.

23) Although the film has remained predominately black-and-white throughout, the climactic introduction of Bruce's Kryptonite arsenal has a profound aesthetic effect, signifying both his threat to Clark and the world, as well as his dive into insanity. The use of Kryptonite gas grenades is accompanied by a monochromatic emerald green. Finally, when Bruce pulls the Kryptonite spear out of the floor, the interior scenes now remain monochromatic emerald until Lois intervenes. From this point on, Kryptonite no longer glows green.

24) Minor cut to warehouse raid sequence, abbreviating cut to black after Bruce crashes through the window and his cape engulfs the screen.

25) Significant cuts to Bruce and Diana at Clark's funeral.
- Cuts from Diana saying "Perhaps they don't want to be found" to flashback of the scene of her receiving Bruce's email, showing the rest of the metahumans files with minor cuts to Cyborg's for quicker pacing.
- Cuts back to funeral, with Diana telling Bruce "A hundred years ago, I walked away from the world of men," eliminating all lines between this and her last before the flashback.

26) Significant cuts to Bruce threatening Lex in his cell.
- Scene now goes to monochromatic red timed to the lighting change in the original.
- Most significant changes are cutting some of Bruce's lines as he tells Lex about sending him to Arkham, and making Lex's reactions colder in the face of them. Exchange now goes:

"Oh, look at us [...] But who would believe me? I'm insane."
"That's right. We have hospitals to treat the mentally ill with compassion." <Lex chuckles> "I arranged for you to get a transfer to Arkham Asylum in Gotham."
"But the bell's already been rung."
