I think TLJ had enough solid individual scenes to make it an enjoyable enough movie. It’s just sloppy and suffers if you think about it too much

My dudes. One of the things since the fall of the Republic is how it’s rotten to the core. The casino scene shows this. Nothing actually changed and the Empire and Resistance still fights. The ending shows that a real victory and recruitment to a brighter future is done by compassionate helping hand. The resistance killing Empire soldiers or ships do nothing but continue cycle and bloodshed. Finn rescuing the animals and inspiring the kid is what is needed to rebuild a new better Republic and tear down existing systems.

Also if it wasn't Star Wars most of the people defending it would be ripping it a new Prometheus style rear end in a top hat.

Social commentary is honestly not a difficult thing to insert into a film, so it's weird when people have to be like "ONLY A GENIUS COULD DO THIS" and not just a pretty decent sci-fi action film. Like fuckin' Grown Ups 2 has social commentary.

I just really, really would like them to get back to making 90-120 minute blockbusters. 2 hours needs to be the hard limit on these movies, so many of them have great individual scenes that you don't want to rewatch the movie for because the pacing is so terrible. TLJ should've been at least 30 minutes shorter, probably 40 minutes.

unfortunately having "some cool scenes" or whatever doesnt make it a good movie. the script is incoherent and the characters suck and nobody cares about them. thats why it's bad, because, alas, it sucks.

the laura dern character does everything wrong and is then lionized out of nowhere for no reason. theres some kind of insane redemption plot that only took place off the page and doesnt make any sense in the context of the movie. it could have made sense if she had a cool scene in a crumbling cruiser, enduring bombardment by the empire fleet in a burning CIC while the escape pods escaped, that would have owned and made sense and made her cool, but that didn't happen - instead some inane bullshit happened lol

Like if she revealed the plan was to get them on shuttles then make a suicide attack, I'd been like "Oh, OK, at least she has a real plan to maybe buy them a minute." But her plan was awful her execution was awful and her people skills were awful. Yet she got a way, way cooler death than any of the returning cast or main characters. Given what happened with Carry Fisher it's tragic she wasn't given that ending, it'd been one epic send off shot. ED: Random admiral who screws everything up and blows it - given the best death in the franchise. Perhaps the most central character to the franchise outside of Vader - tuckers himself out and has a heart attack. Blazing Ownager fucked around with this message at 18:07 on Dec 28, 2017 |

I've got zero ill will against any of them. I think some of the dumb mistakes with the casino poo poo was separating Finn and Rei for the entire film. I feel like 2 movies in and our main cast has barely spent any real time with each other and it's hurting the movie. I know people like to jump on and say fanfic with this poo poo but no, I just want to see the characters that are central to the movie actually interacting. Has Rei even said more than like 3 words to Po yet?!

I actually like that they're not feeling forced to keep all the characters together in one place so they can interact with each other. Finn took a backseat in this film, but maybe the story will go in a direction for the next one where he'll be much more central. It will probably help to keep things a little fresher if we're really gonna get a new numbered episode every two years.
