Right; people who don’t pay attention to the narrative miss that Kylo’s struggle against ‘seduction by the light’ refers to a light generated by (hell)fire. The sequel films are a Twilight narrative, with the central joke being that the only Christian in the known universe falls in love with a woman who is, by all appearances, the Antichrist.

Luke literally tells her not to look into the abyss and she never considers for a single second to take his warning seriously because he hasn't actually given her a good reason not to look into the abyss. He's used to pampered mediocrities. The subtext is that he's afraid of her, right off the bat, and with good reason.

Yeah: “You're afraid - that you will never be as strong as Darth Vader!” The point of that line is of course that she doesn’t have any such fear. Killing Christ would be easy for her; she is a new and better God.

Is this the first time we see a lightsaber remotely turned on? Seems like it would be pretty powerful to turn your opponents lightsaber on or off either just carrying it or in battle. A lightsaber carried on a belt is pretty dangerous if it turns on suddenly.

Waffles Inc. posted:the super secret is that their posts are typically just talking about what happens in the movie The "psuedomarxist" analysis of the Prequels and Sequels is the whole attempt try and apply the marxist theory of class conflict logic to the Jedi, The Sith, the Politicians, and the general citizenry of the galaxy. Such as trying to analyze the differences between Leia's clothing and the clothing of the general crew in TLJ and using it to further some sort of theory of some bernie vs hillary coded message in the film. It's Utter tripe.

SuperMechagodzilla posted:Right; people who don’t pay attention to the narrative miss that Kylo’s struggle against ‘seduction by the light’ refers to a light generated by (hell)fire. I like that retrospectively, Snoke was so sub-par as a wannabe Palpatine that he trained Kylo against seduction by his dad, setting up his own murder. You are a true Christian indeed, but a poor Marxist, seeing a goddess and calling her the anti-Christ. I like the take that she seduces him to the dark side, though. Much of Rey's character comes from having so much more genuine moral conviction than we are used to seeing from a heroic figure, and the result is a character who reads like they should be evil to an audience used to "passionate intensity" being a characteristic of "the worst" while the mark of moral quality is to "lack all conviction." With Anakin, his conviction was written as the pull of the Dark Side on his soul, but what if it is conviction itself that is seductive? Detective No. 27 posted:Noted Rolling Stone writer Hideo Kojima weighs in on The Last Jedi and the Disney era of Star Wars. One day I'll be convinced that Kojima isn't weirdly overrated but this article won't be the one to do it. C'mon, look at these quotes. This is positive? "This is what it means for Disney, not George Lucas, to helm the Star Wars franchise. In the magic kingdom anyone can become prince or princess, no blood is spilled and there are no revolutions." ????? "This method, akin to the portrayal of TV series characters, eschews plot progression in favor of deeper character development. Significant effort is applied to diving into and increasing the allure of characters from the previous episode: Rey, Finn, Poe, Kylo, as well as a host of new characters. However, failure to follow through with these character developments yields regrettable results. Poe gets kicked to the side early on and never finds a place to shine, and Rey and Luke's interactions fail to reach a satisfying conclusion." ????? Detective No. 27 posted:Absolutely. It's dark hand wrapped around her neck. "But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved the Prequels."
