Not true. Prions are most concentrated in CNS tissue but can be found elsewhere including blood tissue. But you're less likely to acquire a prion disease from a placenta than a brain so go for it Manlove.

Her elf-dick research was impressive, but it was just laying down groundwork for the elf-vagina theory which IMHO should be considered 100% canon because that is some :nms: Grade A body horror :nms:

This is a legitimate concern about humans eating the placenta. The bacteria can be passed from mother to child via lactation and while typically it won’t harm an adult, a new baby doesn’t have the immunities yet.

That’s not even kind of true. A baby receives its circulating antibodies from its mother, which provide some protection for the first six months of its life while the thymus begins developing active immunity. Mothers can pass antibodies through breast milk, and she’s already immune to the flora that would be present in her own placenta and hence has antibodies to them, which would also be circulating in the baby due to inherited passive immunity. Foreign bacteria present in literally any other food would pose far greater risk than the mother eating a piece of herself, and to my knowledge people don’t eat the placenta raw anyway. Outside of the hippie connection to your higher motherhood or whatever the gently caress they peddle it as, the placenta is a highly vascularized tissue with an astonishingly high iron content, and the driving theory behind why a lot of mammals will devour it is that it combats anemia by restoring a significant portion of the iron lost from bleeding during the birthing process. Of course, in the modern age you could just take supplements, but who gives a gently caress if she wants to eat it?

Nobody gives a gently caress that she chose to eat it, but the CDC doesn't agree with you. Neither does the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Elise did it as a healthcare professional who knew the risks; plenty of other women buy into the "health benefits" that have absolutely no basis in fact and can in fact cause harm.

The CDC article doesn’t name the source of the contamination specifically, and the AJOG article requires a purchase to read so it may go into more detail, but the problem seems to be that there’s no accepted way to prepare it that is known to remove all of the pathogens. Plus I don’t know if there is any actual FDA oversight regarding the procedure of capsulizing the placenta, which makes me wonder if the contamination could have come from the prep site itself (which may be an actual facility or some yup mom’s kitchen.) Is there more than one case of it happening?

Feel free to PM me if you care to, although the placenta discussion seems to be going on in at least three threads rn

Both of those are specifically about capsules of placenta and the CDC explicitly states that the issue was that there were no preparatory standards for making them and as a result the placenta was not properly heated (cooked) during the process to kill infectious agents, and recommends doing so.

I could have sworn everyone was saying it was just a city park, but looking at this on a map it seems like a legit National Park of quite some size.
