Yeah I'd love for my cameras to eat up wan bandwidth every second of the day. Who needs fast internet services??

Somehow Meraki have managed to do the worst of both worlds - the cameras rely on a cloud service to function and to be licensed, but they store all their video locally. So if somebody walks up to your camera then rips it down and takes it with them, the recording is lost.

Then what's the point of the cloud service?

I had somebody email me on Christmas morning complaining that their home printer wasn't working. I was out of the country, and more than happy to ignore her and let my autoreply inform her to email helpdesk@companyname.com (she still hasn't).

Due to the nature of my company, I actually have to work NYD. So I worked today. Also due to the nature of my company, while the first three months of the year are incredibly busy, NYD is, comparatively, the last "quiet" day before the tickets hit the poo poo fan. So while it was NYD it wasn't that bad of a day at work. Happy New Year/Thread.

I wish I had as much dedication to anything in my life as the guy who's new to his department and emailed us on a day off to ask us to add his printer to his computer. Hell, I'm on call and I even hosed up what hours I was supposed to be available today.

CPA client emailing us repeatedly on December 31st about her QB timer not working. Lady, I can't tell you how much of a poo poo I don't give. Also welcome the new thread same as the old thread. I look forward to rereading this post in 4 years when this thread closes and laughcrying about my lack of forward pro--oh who are we kidding I'll be drunk off my rear end probably and won't be able to read good.

If in four years I'm still at the company where I work, barring some kind of miracle making it an ideal place to work, I hosed up. I've already been there way too long. The IT Director resigned, then his replacement, the former Assistant Director resigned (he had the position for like a week), and that leaves me as the most senior person in IT. Tomorrow I get to go in and find out what the gently caress they want to do to fix the department. Oh and just before that one of my best sysadmins resigned. They all went to the company that the IT Director moved on to. Who knows if he'll recruit more people from our team and if one of them will be me. What a way to start 2018. In four years, I'll be pretty okay if I'm still at my current employer. It's no Pod™, but the pay is good and the work is interesting enough. If one or the other changes, I'm sure I can bail to someplace better. Of course, my LinkedIn is up to date for the non-sketch headhunters to find and offer me $Enough to find someplace else more interesting. Oh, can we schedule some downtime for the thread tomorrow at 9AM? Our patching scans show we're missing some updates from 2004, and we'll fail audit if we don't get them installed post-haste.

In four years I’ll hopefully be working remote from somewhere in the mountains that still has a decent internet connection. Maybe somewhere cheapish., it would be cool to be able to just sock away big city money living up in the CO / WY mountains.

Ho boy everybody, just got off a conference call with the executive team. They took today's thread numbers and extrapolated some projections and they are noooooot happy. At 2 pages today we're looking at 730 pages this year. Expectations were for 750 pages. They want a formal response in two hours on why this thread isn't delivering and what our plan is to fix it. They don't care it's a holiday, get the response in or the team is going to face massive layoffs and they're going to outsource the thread overseas. Forget your families / friends / obligations / contractual holiday time, let's get cracking on this.

I have a non-fake one I tried to block out but was reminded of. A manager put in a ticket:”Manager” posted:[Employee] is having problems searching Outlook. She does the work of two people and this needs to be fixed ASAP I reply asking what the issue is “Super Employee” posted:[Normal behavior Outlook does on old messages] AND THIS JUST STARTED LAST WEEK I KNOW ITS ONLY A FEW CLICKS AND DOESNT SOUND LIKE MUCH BUT I DO SO MUCH WORK IT ADDS UP She has an (actually) old computer and follows up asking if she can get a new pc if this doesn’t fix her issue. Manager, immediately, without any input from me: ”Manager” posted:[Employee] is authorized for the biggest and best new computer Can’t wait for the “my Outlook is still broken!!!!!!!” ticket because she’s already stopped responding to my inquiries for further information regarding Outlook having heard NEW COMPUTER.
