Yeah, it's a US/UK thing. What you call suspenders, we would call braces. Our suspenders are your garter belts. Stockings and suspenders are the mainstay of vintage British soft porn.

My fellow goons. I plan to compete in, and win, the Formula 1 racing series this year. All I need supplied from you are two multi-million dollar race cars, a highly skilled and experienced support team, sundry supplies such as tires and fuel, a helmet, and a racing suit. I’ve already ordered the vinyl tear-offs for my visor.

xzzy posted:I would like to sell my photos for several thousand dollars too, but unfortunately every exposure I take is complete trash and even worse I have realized this fact. Well, you see, the objective quality of the photo goes up with the more impressive gear you have, so a shot with a dslr (a filthy unnatural digital format that does not have as much integrity or artistic value) will never be worth thousands of dollars vs. a shot with an expensive large format film camera and a 600 dollar light meter printed on a large piece of metal. Actually who am I to judge - he’s probably happier in that fantasy land than I am in reality.

I think he could be in for just under a kilobuck on the low end, but who are we kidding? He's maxed out his Paypal Credit for final-generation APO lenses and he's hiding them under his bed so his parents can't crush his dreams by making him send them back again.

InternetJunky posted:He's not really "Large Format Guy". He's just some guy with Aspergers/Autism that posts these weird reddit posts like his recent large format one. I think his previous post was about opening some kind of photography-related store in a nearby mall where he would sell his work. Before that I remember a post where he outlined about $50,000 worth of gear he was going to rent for very very specific shots in a national park trip he was planning (ie. "I will use the 5d3 and a Canon 16-35mm v2 lens with a Lee 6-stop filter to take a picture of this mountain at 6am"). Then before that I think he first popped up selling his Christmas cards and we all made fun of his pictures because they were crazy bad. i have a sneaking suspicion he's a business major too. just has that vibe.

President Beep posted:i have a sneaking suspicion he's a business major too. just has that vibe. He has some scrub tier Nikon and thinks that the reason he's not an incredibly famous photographer is that he needs expensive gear. He had a Gofundme to financ renting a bunch of gear which was basically the stuff that you'd pick if you knew nothing about photography but were browsing a catalogue of crazy expensive gear - digital Hasselblad as his main camera and a 5DIV with about 30k of L glass for stuff that 'wasn't worth taking on MF'. The Gofundme failed but he went and rented it anyway until his parents made him return it. Then he posted some photos and they were all bad. quote:Ducks at Aransas Wildlife Refuge Recently he's been asking about LF stuff. It's up to him how he spends his money of course and god knows there are a lot of people with all the gear and no idea out there, but he has a terrible habit of continually asking for advice and never actually listening to what people tell him. He also gets fixated on weird details with no regard to how important they actually are (which I guess is part of the spectrum stuff). Like here, he's talking about making 72" metal prints that he'll sell for thousands of dollars each and he's going to use a LF camera that he has no experience with to take the shot (AFAICT he has never shot analogue at all). But the part he wants help with is picking the right lightmeter.
