Why would anyone buy a crypto currency from a failed company? Is this a huge troll from Kodak or are they just crazy? Also I know that they were bought out, I think, so I’d like to think that was the new company’s master plan all along.

alarumklok posted:How does this even try to solve the thing they claim it helps solve? A month or so ago, Facebook announced that they were developing a way to combat revenge porn by developing a way to uniquely identify any photo and then blocking it from upload in any version if it was reported as revenge porn. It sounds like Kodak are working on something like that, but for all images as a way to derive a digital fingerprint for original works. This lets the platform search for all versions of your original work no matter where it's used. Then you, the creator, connect that fingerprint with your wallet by adding it to the blockchain and you get paid in Kodakash whenever it gets used. Problems are: - Why would image buyers use this when there are literally hundreds of reputable stock image agencies that accept real money instead of Dunning-Krugerrands? - Blockchains get more unwieldy as more data is added by design. The BItcoin blockchain is only capable of handling about 2-3 transactions per second globally at this time. - Most cryptocurrencies aren't backed by anything. I don't see how this will be any different. Unless Kodak are going to underwrite their currency with some tangible assets, anyone using the platform is going to see the value of their portfolio swing crazily and be susceptible to bubbles and manipulation.

Yeah, I definitely didn't invent that phrase but I love how it elegantly describes the cryptocurrency environment so completely. I'm currently designing a blockchain-powered game for a crypto hedgefund so technical limitations of blockchains are a thing I've been looking at a lot recently.

It's not like the embedded image would spontaneously combust into its component pixels if they didn't pay up their K-bux of their own volition.

That is my (limited) experience too. I signed up with Pixsy who found a bunch of sites using some of my pictures but then declined to do anything about it because they are all hosted in countries that don't give a poo poo about copyright protection.
