I don’t know—dirty bombs seem like they must have ended up pretty hard to make. Otherwise you would have expected a real terrorist group or revolutionary cell to make one. Atomwaffen seem like they’re just a step or two above the school shooters who drive over people and credit ISIS.

Weren’t dirtybombs always just a hypothetical devised by some think tank with the estimated death toll of a detonation relying on the assumption that the detonation site will not be evacuated for quite some time?

Apparently the Atomwaffen cell in Tampa had radioactive material in their apartment, but it wasn't clear what that was. Maybe they stole something from a hospital. Count me skeptical on this. I've heard of trucks getting stolen from hospitals in Mexico and setting off some media panic. If one of these terror groups blew something like that up, it might not cause any significant harm but it could cause panic, which is the point after all. A lot of these Atomwaffen guys are really kids though or in their 20s (still kids) and don't seem to have any money or sophistication. I saw a picture of one holding a Mosin, which is the kind of rifle you buy when you don't have any money. Also, I don't know if he was one of them, but a young neo-Nazi (who I don't know) showed up at a party with a group of fash like... a year ago? I remember seeing it on Will Fears' social media. The kid was basically in a LARP costume, SS camouflage jacket. He looked like how these Atomwaffen types dress. They were at some bar and Fears mocked him, and apparently humiliated him, and he didn't seem like he ever showed up at one of these things again. business hammocks posted:I don’t know—dirty bombs seem like they must have ended up pretty hard to make. He was radicalized and killed his roommates as part of his cause, then went on a shooting spree, so he was something of a hybrid where the personal and political got mixed together. Also one thing worth noting about the teen's Twitter account (already taken down) is the number of Syrian civil war stuff he followed, especially on the regime side. He was definitely wrapped up in the world of violent war videos, although not on the ISIS side in his case. BrutalistMcDonalds has issued a correction as of 19:23 on Jan 4, 2018 |

Oh there's a guy sharing Atomwaffen stuff on his social media in my area. Some comrades found him the other day. Haven't positively ID'd yet though I have a face and maybe a few other things. He also shares images glorifying the Columbine killers and recently read a book about them. Need to find out if he's in school so the institution can get contacted. Like this other kid he seems to be wrapped up in consuming news about the Syrian civil war, but oddly in his case, he identifies with Rojava. Well, anyways, if you saw him you'd see there's something... not quite right about this guy.

The law is written loosely but interpreted pretty narrowly. "Inspire" didn't fall foul of the law until they started giving fairly detailed instructions on preparing improvised weapons, and while the various versions of The Anarchist's Cookbook do count, chemistry textbooks or the Wikipedia article on TNT don't. I'll assume the stuff they had was the same guides to reactivating or modifying guns that was put out by Combat 18 and some of the Loyalist terrorists in Northern Ireland in the eighties, as they're pretty much in the British Far Right Starter Pack, although I remember one of them was done for having Al Qaeda training manuals (which they claimed were to help them research the Islamic Menace).

it seems like mass killers who fit the loser kid profile always give themselves the fig leaf of a political cause, even if it’s patently ridiculous. The kids who bombed the Boston Marathon claimed fealty to Al Quaeda, and pretty much every “ISIS” attack in the US has been a dead-end teen or 20-something turning suicidal anger outward at not being rich or having a girlfriend. But even killers who don’t claim an organization often say that they’re continuing the fight started by the murderers at Columbine. It’s no surprise these people are getting into nazi poo poo now that it’s on their internet hangouts. It’s all just a final puff of denial that they want to die.

Now if anyone isn't like them then the government should use all available resources to crack down on those depraved degenerates. It's why the bundy group aiming guns at federal officers makes them heroes for freedom, but a man having sex with a man in the privacy of his own home needs full government intervention.

Cobalt-60 is a medical isotope that's insanely radioactive with a 5 year half-life (gives off a ton of radiation) and a decay that's almost entirely gamma radiation (alpha and beta particles don't penetrate much and aren't nearly as dangerous) but by the time you put a few pounds of it into an explosive, you'll be dead before you can move it to a populated area.

The real danger with dirty bombs is that they can contaminate an area and essentially make it less safe than people will tolerate. Imagine loving up a few hundred billion dollars of Manhattan real estate for 20 years.

The school shooter crossover is the key somehow. I'm too tired to fully think through it right now though. But the fact that Columbine is important to 4chan teen nazis like 20 years later is significant.
