Capital: A city designated as a legislative seat by the government or some other authority, often the city in which the government is located; otherwise the most important city within a country or a subdivision of it.

I agree with you, but turnout in Bexar county is an issue with folks that would probably vote blue. Especially in non presidential elections. Turnout for the 2014 ballot was 31%, and Coryn won Bexar county by 13 points.

It's not as blue as some like to think (including me), but it *could* be if they can find someone to get the voters out.

2008 - 57% turnout

code:

Gonna slightly complicate this. I think it was Austin's black population specifically which fell off a cliff. The Anglo population grew by absolute numbers, but its size relative to the Austin population as a whole declined, because Hispanic and Asian growth was so much higher. (Hispanic primarily.)

Of course Austin is still the whitest, Angloish major city in Texas.

Austin's old "gentlemen’s agreement" about which city council seats were reserved for black and hispanic candidates was the perfect Austin compromise between deep racism and surface level liberalism.

That's less liberal or conservative and more the homeowners.

Meanwhile, anyone who rents and doesn't care about property values is wondering who's skull they have to cave in with a tire-iron to get a proper mid-town east-west traffic artery built.

I'm block walking for my left wing congressional candidate this weekend, who is running on a conservative, military district. She gonna lose this primary but gently caress em.

Meanwhile, the #resistance winemum running on Houston (Laura Mosser?) Is tweeting stuff like "as a former Republican" and "Houston homeowners with more than 580k in home value are about to see their taxes increase!"

Basically gently caress the world, run leftists and lose but feel good about it.

nearly every family gathering features my father and grandparents talking about 'those druggies' and how any drug use is responsible for the moral collapse of America. theyve also probably never missed a single election in their entire lives.

it took my in-laws actually going through cancer to accept that it *MIGHT* have heavily regulated medicinal benefits.

So now that we've got a dozen people running for governor I was thinking one of them might be worth voting for in the primary rather than voting for the least-worst Republican on their ballot. Do any of yall know anything about Tom Wakely, he seems almost good?

Apparently he ran against my former rep Lamar "gently caress your internet" Smith in 2016 and lost less horribly than every other Democrat who tried for that seat which by Texas Democrat standards is political genius.

Nah there are way more pro lifers than gun voters. It's impossible, because one would follow the other, but in a world where abortion was never legalized, I'm not sure the GOP would have ever held a majority. If they actually ever banned abortion I think they'd lose a major portion of their voter base who would just stop turning out.
