I hadn’t listened to Machine Head in years. I listened to their latest on a whim last week. What the f? They’re a totally different-sounding band now.

Yes, Davidian from Burn my eyes and it is something like 25 years old atm. Burn my eyes had a bunch of radio samplings from the news around the LA riots if I recall.

At Bloodstock he started playing rhythm guitar while standing behind the actual guitarist and it looked like he was giving him a reach around

I decided to rank all Darkthrone albums because I've brain problems and had to put off real work. Top = great. Bottom = well, I mean,

under a funeral moon
transilvanian hunger
a blaze in the northern sky
panzerfaust
ravishing grimness
soulside journey
sardonic wrath
hate them
goatlord
the underground resistance
arctic thunder
circle the wagons
foad
dark thrones and black flags
the cult is alive
total death
plaguewielder

I did this yesterday while drunk, and I am drunk now too so I don't remember if I put in any obvious jokes/trollbait. Feel free to sound off in the replies. Looks reasonable to me though tbh

Yeah, except I changed it from "comments" (or "comment section") to "replies" because there are no comments on SA (nor comment sections). In other news, I'm listening to THAT riff from Green Cave Float right now again and gently caress, I want to start an epic doom metal band just so I can rip it off.

I'd argue putting Transylvanian Hunger over Under a Funeral Moon, but I just really like TH.

Well, I mean, the bottom of the list isn't terrible. For reference, I would give Plaguewielder a 5 or 6 out of 10 depending on my daily tolerance for anemic angular riffs. Wreak alone is 8/10. Total Death has one 9/10 song on it (guess which one) and is mostly marred by the fact that Fenriz absolutely didn't give a poo poo anymore, and not in a good way, and you can hear it. Also, it's the one Darkthrone album I would argue has an actually bad production. etc. etc. The bottom of the list isn't Octagon or Cold Lake or whatever

(Total Death also has the best audiocommentary of those I've heard. Ravnajuv is just Nocturno going "wow, this song sure has a lot of harmonies. ....... yep .... anyway, sorry for me butchering Nynorsk". The last song is Fenriz practically committing seppuku for recycling the TH main riff for the millionth time. He starts apologizing right at the start and then when the riff hits he's reduced to angry stammering, lol)
