He was basically manipulating both the Scions and the Warriors of Darkness to arrange for as close to a win-win scenario for both of their worlds - the Source and the First - as possible. This also fucks over the black-robed Ascians' hopes to make their conflict kill the WoL and trigger a Rejoining. Elidibus is cool enough with the outcome because having the First turn into the light version of the Void would be bad for the Ascians too.

Forcing a healer to stand with melee is a bad idea as there are already multiple fights where healers must spend most of their time outside of melee range.

Basically, it would completely gimp their DPS. No one would use them for raiding as their potential DPS would be far lower than AST/WHM/SCH

I don't really give a poo poo. The onus of balance is on the dev team, not me. If they deem it too difficult to implement then they won't and that is just fine with me since I don't really think this game needs yet another ranged healer

Or any more jobs really if I am being honest, it takes forever to level them all up after an expansion as it is.

edit: And just for the sake of being argumentative, there's no reason for devs to go back and rebalance old content for new jobs. Samurai and especially red mage are already drastically more dps than most other jobs at 60 or lower, I don't really see the need for them to address that particular issue.

Buzzard, Who Steals From Dead Bodies
The advantage of adding a tank and healer is that they can codify into mechanics the main/sub preference that the community only has through optimization--i.e. remove the shield option from astro and add a shield+dps healer to compete with scholar, so you take ast or whm then sch or chm, let's say. Having to balance only two sets of options against each other will feel a lot better than one of three options being perpetually left out in the cold by reddit whimsy.

This game is just not built to support the idea of a melee healer. Melee healers (and ranged tanks) completely break the game as a whole.

Ranged tanks, obviously, since most enemies do their damage as melee attacks. A ranged tank would completely nullify that, there is not a way to make that work and be on the same level as the other tanks. Yet, I've still seen people call for it.

As for melee healers - healers are generally supposed to be mobile. Hence why the current healers all have at least one major DOT - it is so they can be doing damage no matter where they are on the battle field. A melee healer goes against this concept. So if the melee healer has to be mobile on a fight (as in most fights) but they have to be in melee range to DPS, their DPS is going to be dramatically worse than any other healer. So if you compensate that by greatly upping their DPS, you're making them imbalanced in another way.

What it simply comes down to is: tanks are melee, healers are ranged, DPS can be either. I would seriously bet money against there ever being any deviation from this core mold.

Melee healers are fine if you're a game built to support that. This game does not.

Ranged tanks would be absolutely fine, though. Obviously, you'd be in melee range most of the time, but the fact that your attacks are ranged would occasionally be useful while offtanking, on some bosses like the magitek gunship in keeper of the lake, and while soloing.

Melee healers would also work perfectly fine. If there are mechanics that require you to run away from the boss, you're not doing any damage obviously, but I don't think current healers are doing much dps while kiting black holes or whatever either.

There is literally no reason they cannot do either of these things. It is just a matter of if they can be assed to devote the resources to it. I won't fault them if they choose not to, but the question wasn't what would be the easiest jobs to implement for the dev team (another ranged healer and another whatever the hell war counts as now), it was what job do I want implemented. I want them to put the work in. It would probably be an underplayed job but I would love it and being underplayed hasn't led to them deleting machinist yet, much to my chagrin.
