I was trying to figure out why I all of a sudden got a bunch of follows and likes yesterday. https://www.instagram.com/p/BRUSx-Nji_v/ Then I looked at some of the other photos on that account- holy poo poo. -Wayne's World "I'm not worthy".gif-

I have just checked it, and it is indeed the case, even though none of my photos are such an extreme examples as that one.

I've never done drone stuff before- does the mount let you pivot the camera to portrait, do you have to mount it as portrait before you launch, or are you stuck in landscape and have to crop?

Yeah just just select the portrait option on the camera menu and the camera flips to portrait mode in-flight. The Mavic Pro is pretty much future tech in many ways. I was sitting on the other side of the river, about 1,000ft away when I took this shot!

Followed a bunch of y'all. I've been following some of the threads in this forum for years, so it's cool to find some of my favourites on instagram too. https://www.instagram.com/ianlan1an/ This is mine, mostly urban/nature intersecting landscapes & lately the birds on my patio. Vancouver based, so lots of rain and overcast weather. Building my career as a cinematographer currently, so decided I needed to put way more effort into proving that I actually have a visual sense.

So since I have been using focalmark I have still been getting a ton more follows than when I wasn't using it. I am wondering though, are most of the people who look at those tags people who just follow to get follows if their own? I got probably 25 more followers more than before I started using it but way, way more follows than that - easily over 100 but I'm not counting so I don't know the exact amount. When I check out my follower number it is always around 500 so I assume that most of those follow me and then unfollow the next day or something. Is this because I don't follow them back? I follow only around 100 people and like to actually see what they post so I keep that number low so I actually have content that is good and not just poo poo selfies and whatnot. Or perhaps it is because I am all over the place and will post stuff from my xt2 that is wildlife and "better photos" than cat pictures, which I also post because I have been doing that since I started way back when instagram came out - I've had a good amount of followers from the beginning and I know they like my dumb cat pictures and I like theirs because cats are awesome. Or maybe everything I post is poo poo - that is a possibility too. Also I have been trying to keep up with following goons but if I have missed anyone, my name there is northpaul so if I see a goon follow and recognize the name from this thread then I will follow back anyone I missed (contrary to popular belief most of the people here put up interesting and "good" photos)

rio posted:s this because I don't follow them back? This is exactly it. They are in the game of trying to get more and more followers, they don't follow you because they think your posts are good, they follow you because they know you will follow them back. They will unfollow you no matter what (to keep their ratio), but you not following them right away means they just unfollow you sooner.

I post photos most actual photographers will hate but tweens on insta love and I shamelessly abuse hashtags #exploretocreate even though it doesn't actually seem to affect likes and follows. I do have some nice wildlife pics I'm kinda pleased with that I'm drip-feeding for optimal likes. https://instagram.com/mrjamesdawson

You know I've tried, but literally never been able to take a pic of food from even the fanciest restaurant that doesn't look like the stuff you pull out of a blocked sewage pipe.

Does anyone know if there's a way to find out where likes/impressions "come from"? I'm asking because I have a mere 200'ish followers and on a good day my photos get 15-30 likes in total. But now I have one that's at 700+ likes and 21k+ impressions and I have gently caress all idea how or why. No special tags or anything and it's an half out of focus shot of one of my sfx makeup buddies with his creation at an event: https://www.instagram.com/p/BUhty_0l6PR/?taken-by=houseofmarkus How did that happen?

Your friend has 25k followers. By tagging him in the pic, you get some exposure to all those people.

Hmm, but I quite regularly shoot/post/tag people/events with 15k-100k followers and this is the first time a photo "exploded". Maybe Stuart is special. Time to do a test and post more of his stuff.

How do people get their photos to be the right aspect ration in gallery view? https://www.instagram.com/locke.nicholls/ Mine are all square when they should be rectangles

# ? Aug 28, 2017 09:22 |

Instagram displays all your photos as square in on your profile regardless of their crop.

I use the SquareIt app to put a white border around any picture that won't fit inside Instagram's minimum aspect ratio. Speaking of crazy feeds, check out Jamie Fenn. He's managed to make his entire feed spanning more than a year of uploads into a single image. It looks better on mobile than on the web app, because the wider spacing between previews spoils the effect somewhat.

I actually created an Instagram to upload the pictures I take at events for the student athletes I take photos of. I tried sending them imgur links but that was cumbersome. So here I am: https://www.instagram.com/Angrycakemedia I’ll branch out eventually but right now, I’m focusing on my volunteer work.
