well, finally got to finishing this one that I started back in October (one of many pictures I was hoping to finish before the end of 2017. Oh well :sweatdrop:).

still trying to learn to use a larger palette of colors without them feeling random/incongruous.

i really dig the palette you've got going on but i might just make a few small tweaks like maybe adding stronger highlights on the hair and guitar and maybe making the bushes in the background less detailed since they feel like they kind of distract from the focus of the piece

totally agreed but I spent way too much time tweaking already and am pretty sick of it, so I think I'm just going to relent and take it as a lesson for the future :goleft:
probably will change my mind at some point and fix it though, thanks

thanks! I couldn't help but tweak it a little bit. still will probably end up just redoing parts of the background sometime later on (may or may not post here) but I think this softened the compositional woes a wee bit

Also attaching an in-progress of a medieval guy I'm working on (this is another one I was hoping to finish by the end of 2017; I started it sometime in november but mostly put it aside since then

Thanks—yeah, all I was considering was redrawing some of the background, but I think that's most likely a "looking at it in 2 years and getting annoyed" kind of thing.

I think people that were in their teens and 20s at the time largely associate it with a lovely job market, high crime rate, and high drug use.
Younger people, on the other hand, associate it with a lovely job market, high crime rate, and high drug use, but neon and loving cool

Cue "vaporwave" love of all things which belong on a Trapper Keeper cover. Not that I can talk. The client for the remix album directed me to make it... 80s arcade style... hence "Console Records". Ugh.

Oooo! It's actually super easy- You make a new document about 1pixel wide by like, 5 pixels high for a high res photo, and with a white background as the base. Take the pencil tool and with black, cover about 3 of the top pixels. then go into Edit>define pattern, name it as like 5px scanline. Then, on the thing you wanna do the scanlines on, make a new layer, press shift+backspace, choose "pattern", and then find whatever you saved your scanline pattern as. It'll fill the screen and look awful, but lower the opacity and magically, scanlines! You can make it whatever size scanline you like- I just used a 1x5 pixel because my canvases are HUGE and require a bigger scanline. If you're working on something smaller, a 1x2 would work just as well. For thicker scanlines, just make it longer, so like 1x10 or something.

oh cool! I've just recently started paying attention to the pattern function in Illustrator, now I'll have to think a bunch of cool photoshop uses for it. Thanks!

Mostly that the pen for it is garbage and that it lacks the GPU power needed for photoshop.

Just need to chime in and say that I sculpt in zBrush using my Surface Book (i7, 16gb RAM, crappy GPU) and it's totally fine. Sometimes when I get into the ridiculously high-poly stuff it may have small performance issues, but if I can sculpt millions of poly's just fine, I think photoshop is just fine. Also, I do photoshop work for my job on this PC, I'm not drawing in PS but I've never had photoshop issues, zbrush issues, only once did I have Substance Painter issues.
