Maybe it's a bit silly, but I like this part at the end: Finally, it's noteworthy how Nintendo survived the down years when the Wii U was failing. It had accumulated a substantial reserve to cover years of losses — as compared to the usual U.S. corporate behavior of kicking out all profits to shareholders as fast as possible. More strikingly, when revenue failed to meet expectations in 2013, company president Satoru Iwata took a voluntary pay cut of 50 percent for five months, while other executives took a 20-30 percent cut. That is poles apart from traditional American executive behavior, which is to push losses onto workers and pensions while looting as much cash out of the company while the getting is good. If Carl Icahn had been in charge of Nintendo for the last few years it would have already been stripped for parts and sold for a quick buck to Wall Street goons. It is pretty cool that they were able to be lovely for a couple of years and then make it back into respectability.

Satoru Iwata was good and cool. Also Nintendo has a pretty interesting history. They're still a corporation with lots of shady poo poo under their belt. Do not fall in love with corporations. *sighs and clutches his mini SNES*

I mean, yeah, that was only discovered because the Gamergate started digging into her past because of some wierd controversy about the translation of Fire Emblem, but that doesn't mean that Nintendo wasn't completely right to not want her associated with their products.

There's nothing wrong with being a sex worker but unfortunately that's not a widely held position. I really think it's not unreasonable in the current cultural climate for a children's toy company to decide that they don't want their literal spokesperson to be a sex worker. If you criticism of Nintendo is that they aren't doing enough to normalize sex work, I think that's a little silly.

Ya man, when im sayin any company is obv goin to prioritize corporate interests over those of the worker & this is an example of that what i rly mean is Nintendo should be a sex work advocacy group...reading comprehension ftw

Nintendo should be more positive toward sex work, since one of their pre-video game ventures was a chain of love hotels.

Nobody is saying that, we are just pointing out that the inclusive and woman friendly gamergate movement sent 10000 tweets a day to Nintendo and outed her as a sex worker for the crime being a female employed by them.
