Don't forget the economy that's pretty much exactly the same as it was before.

So that leaves...random delusions that evidence is useless? Sounds about right.

So, I've heard that the way the tax bill will hit is that because the standard deduction will increase, lots of people will see reduced with holdings from their paycheck. This will make the tax bill look like it is helping them.
However, once they do their taxes, they will find that they either get a smaller refund or owe money. At this point, it will become clear they've been had. Problem? This won't happen until 2019 for the vast majority of people. So during the midterms, it will just be "fake news, whargarble!"

This is mostly what I've heard, but i don't know it to be 100% accurate. If true, we're screwed because people have short memories.

She says that she thinks the republicans might win the midterms because of the tax bill and the state of the economy. It's Liberal Straw Dog that cites Roy Moore. And you never expressed disbelief at Stantis's sock puppet supporting republican ideology, you expressed disbelief specifically at support of Roy Moore from the sock puppet:

I wouldn't worry here too much. Besides that Democrats will hopefully point out the upcoming loving, a major reason they're predicted to make gains during the midterms is California; GOP reps here (and there are quite a few, despite how liberal the state is as a whole) are expected to be utterly wiped out, and the tax bill aggressively fucks over this state, with Congress even trying to pass laws to specifically stop us from doing things to make it less bad for people here. I don't think the tax bill trickery will work here, particularly combined with things like this being a midterm election where both top-ticket races, the governor and the senate seat, will likely be Dem vs Dem and further depress Republican turnout, that some of the GOP people who managed to hold on in places that went Hillary otherwise are retiring, the sheer unpopularity of Trump here, and so on.

It would be, except that the median savings from this tax cut is so low that it becomes imperceptible to most people when spread out over 25-50 paychecks.

Whereas if you take a SALT or mortgage deduction you will notice that hike right the gently caress away. It’s an amazingly poorly designed bill from an optics standpoint.

The name Deustche bank probably conjures images of SS stormtroopers which makes it hard for people like Garrison to hate them.

What, drawn, and talk of peace! I hate the word, As I hate hell, all Montagues, and thee

Most people don't follow politics closely enough to really understand the process, so the version of the bill they're most familiar with is the original house bill. Even if they do realize that wasn't the bill that was passed, the optics in it haven't been great.

But I think it's more than that. I think there has been a shift in perception in America that debt isn't some amorphous thing, it's a choice in what we are supporting financially. Everyone hears that "$1.5 trillion" and look at their slightly bigger check, and they think "I'd rather have Medicare For All/free college education/a VA medical system that works/a stronger military". Everyone has been acting like we are on the brink of ruin, and when we finally spend the money, it's on a tax cut that hippy co-worker Steve keeps insisting will hurt you personally.

So either you're disengaged and think the house bill screws you, hyper engaged and know the final bill screws you in ten years, and either way you aren't a big fan of tax cuts right now anyway.

Edit: as evidence, I point to polling that places this tax cut as less popular then recent tax hikes.

Apparently, everyone wants Oprah to run for president now

(I have seen several articles assuring me of this)

The media, for some mysterious reason, is pitching the idea of this media mogul running the country really hard

I don't think Lester has to worry about her raising taxes though; she seems to hate the IRS as much as every other rich person does

Just lol if you don't realize that "She made a speech about women not being silent about sexual harassment anymore" is basically a direct declaration of war against the Republican party. And that's not just me being facetious, like straight up, people see this poo poo anymore and some part of their brain goes "hmm that's pretty pro-women, must be some liberal bullshit." Which is pretty drat telling.

My mom, a woman of 48, ranted at me yesterday in person about how "all these women are coming forward saying they were sexually assaulted." Her exact wording while completely missing the point were: "Do they think this stuff doesn't happen to all of us? I had to deal with this all the time!" To which I kindly as possible said "Yep so that's the point mom, that women everywhere experience this and it's a problem." Which was shortly followed by "men are always going to be like that" to which I of course responded "I'm not like that though, you made sure I wasn't. And frankly, I don't know a single guy who even jokes about that poo poo." To which I basically just get silent head shaking and topic changes.

It's hopeless. Even women who have been sexually assaulted are basically coming to the right conclusion but still somehow completely loving missing the point.
