I do freelance composing/sound design, and recently sent my portfolio to a potential client (who's quite interested :toot:). I also decided to send him a few specific links from my soundcloud (which is sort of separate from my ACTUAL portfolio), so I figured I'd post 'em here too.

I guess you could say..I was born naturally influent.
Been playing guitar for years, but I never really get around to making anything that isn't twenty+ minutes of psychedelic drone noise. Some friends needed a bassist so I pieced together an okay rig and joined up. It's less experimental than most of what I listen to, but we have a great time, and it's nice to be practicing more often. Finally got around to getting some recordings up on Bandcamp. If anyone would care to listen to me pretend I'm a bassist, and maybe comment on the writing or recording quality, we'd love the feedback.

Running a honey blonde 50s reissue pbass into a b7k, but I'm only just figuring out how to play and eq bass. No idea what I'm doing as far as recording or writing bass lines, but I'm pretty proud of 'If I Fall' and 'Don't Touch Me', and I'm looking forward to playing some shows sometime soon!

So I don't know the first thing about EDM or music in general, never learned an instrument, and I only had a crash course in Ableton before making this. It's the first song I ever finished after mashing chords together for a few months with no success. There's plenty of parts that I think still don't sit right but I gave myself a really strict timeline to finish and by god I stuck to that at least.

I released an EP earlier this year (physical & digital) and that kinda got me thrown into a pretty broad subgenre of future bass but I tend to lean a bit more to rap and club type stuff. I'm still learning and branching though.

I wrote this last weekend. First time trying to build a drum track out of loops instead of using a generic loop on my pedal.

I'm actually incredibly happy with the drums and the guitar line sound pretty good, although I feel like I can probably work another guitar line into it.

So I gave myself and my best friend a challenge this weekend.

2 hours to write a song that we would then send to the other to add vocals. I'm a lazy rear end in a top hat who hasn't done vocals on his track yet, but I ended up writing a Synthpop song that has now become it's own little project.

It's been quite a few years since I posted in Musician's Lounge, mostly because I didn't have a suitable studio computer and because I no longer have the health to perform live anymore. This past week, I managed to save enough money to get a 2nd hand Lenovo X230 laptop, and subscribed to EW's ComposerCloud (which is loving amazing). I've also had a steep learning curve getting to know Cubase 9.5

Everything started falling into place tonight, and I wrote this this evening. I don't know what genre of music I would label this as, as I've never recorded anything like this before. It's still a work in progress, and roughly mixed with no mastering.

Ultima! Ahmmm-bing!
Been getting back into music after being away for a decade. Started with doing remixes for skio, now I'm starting to post my own stuff. My goal is to have an hour worth of this kind of thing by the end of the year, and hopefully all of it isn't instrumental.

First, ill start with the most accessable which isn't a metal song. It is a slower waltzy thing that builds into what will hopefully be a single bright and cheery message. The final 10 seconds or so will hopefully have some vocals singing a nice message. Not there yet.
https://soundcloud.com/rusty-kettle/reset-demo-v1

Second, a heavy metal dance party. Some good ol fashioned djent breaking down into some sort of trap thing? I dunno it's weird.
Edit: link removed. Check my SoundCloud for updated version in the future.

Finally, a slow build into Dream Theater prog metal wankery, that evolves into some disco metal, that closes with a distillation of the musical theme. The theme itself was based on something my dad used to play us as kids. Is theme the right word? Don't think so but I'm gonna use it to sound pretentious. This is still a work in progress. I would like the final product to have calls to other songs that will be on the album scattered amongst the wankery. I like it when music does that.
Edit : link removed. Check my SoundCloud for updated version in the future.

Check out my profile for the remixes, which were essentially just ways to get my feet wet learning music production without needing to think too much.

Edit: thanks to some wonderful and very helpful feedback, I am going to update the mixes on these. I'll leave one of the three up. Boy mixing problems can be like the FedEx arrow. You don't hear them even though you've heard the songs a million times, but once they are pointed out, you cannot unhear it.

I dig the general aesthetic and the sort of aggro punchiness of it. Are these intended to be just sketches of ideas, or full songs? If the latter, you might think about throwing in some bridges or B parts to break things up. As it is it seems like you're pulling parts in and out to add variety, which is definitely worthwhile, but throwing in some more substantial changes will help keep the listener engaged.

e: that being said I don't do, or listen to, much of that style of music so maybe I'm coming at it with the wrong set of expectations

They're sort of hastily written full songs, but I'm not really sure how to write good bridges or B parts yet - I'm still trying to figure that out. I recently got a couple books on music theory that I've actually started reading, so hopefully, they'll help. One of these days, I really need to get some actual music lessons.

I don't really consider any of my music to be a genre besides "middle aged man gets a DAW and bangs out some stuff with it", so you're coming at it perfectly fine. I really appreciate your feedback!
