One nice thing about Kuang Shi is that you can kind of be justified in using models from other factions for them, since they are essentially brainwashed prisoners with explosive collars. I just use Corregidor Jaguars for them because of the fugly rear end current models, and jaguars have similar weapon selections(other than having a panzer option).

As a quick PSA, Tomcats continue to be excellent. I saved a game by ramboing one onto a supply box and getting real lucky setting things on fire with it, plus getting into a knife fight with a surprise attacking-Scout and winning.

I don't think I've ever had a game of Infinity where something that wouldn't make for a cool action movie scene did not happen, and it's one of the things I really love about it.

I have yet to kill a model with a light flamethrower, and not from lack of trying. It has been absurd how lucky my opponents are sometimes with avoiding flamethrowers. You shouldn't pass every single dodge check when your opponent is covering 3 of your units in fire 4 orders in a row...

Absolutely. I had a hostile HVT in the Grid save two boarding shotgun hits and dodge another 4 this past weekend, and you can't be mad. It just makes for an awesome cinematic moment.

Also, Daturazi? Holy poo poo. Those things are great, how has it taken 2 years for me to use one. MA4, mimetism, regular order, smoke, reg grenades, PH14.. hot drat.

The more I look at the Tohaa the more the models grow on me. What’s their ‘thing’ in this game and would they be a good faction for a player to pick up to get back into the game after several years out of it?

All the bio tech and cool rules like viral ammo super jump, also symbio armour which makes them deceptively tanky.

Tohaa have a couple of things.

Their biggest deal is triads. The majority of Tohaa units have the ability to form a three-model link team with any other model that has FT: Triad. You can have a bunch of mix-and-match little teams, so they're pretty order-efficient.

Their other schtick is symbiont toys. This can be living armor, where two wound models will have different profiles depending on how wounded they are, but mostly it boils down to Symbiomates. You can basically elect to spend a symbiomate when you get hit to ignore the damage altogether. You can only do this a limited number of times, and some weapons let you avoid it, but it is super annoying to play against.

Tohaa suck at hacking, even worse than Ariadna, and they melt against flamethrowers.

Tohaa have two hackers! that's about on par with Ariadna. They're both either dreadful or overpriced though.

I’ve been using plastic zombies with my ISS so far while waiting for this resculpt. I’m hoping the box will include the Celestial Guard with control device as well since they can’t be fielded without it now.

But......the control device will probly be in a separate 4 man Celestial Guard box.

Tohaa's "thing" is being a huge chore to play against. Their symbiont armor is built in attrition and their Triads make them very dangerous gun fighters.

Barely. Only multi wound symbiont armor units have anything to worry about.

This is the secret truth of Tohaa. I would personally never pick them up, but I could never call anyone out for magpie issues.

I will say they definitely get the short end of the stick when it comes to the release schedule. I'm not sure if fewer things to collect makes it an easier or harder decision in that context, though.

If you play Tohaa, I will be happy to reintroduce you to the game. So I can punish you. Death to artichokes.

At least in a competitive setting, Tohaa have a limited spchocie compared to most factions, I think roughly equivalent to a sectorial. They have some extremely strong auto-take units, supplemented by discount 2nd wounds on most things and loving symbiomates on top of that, 4 of which are 5e most auto-take of auto-takes.

I play order-spam Corregidor and I loving hat playing against Tohaa! Even Ariadna camo spam isn’t as bad in my book.

This is a good counterpoint, and while I like to bitch about them and I really do think they went overboard with free rules to cover the faction's narrow choice, Tohaa players are perfectly free to play however they want. Infinity is a tight enough game that they aren't dominating tournaments or anything like that.

Every time someone in our meta hauls out the MO HI link they get completely taken to the cleaners cause they expect it to play itself and don't have to make any kind of strategic decisions.

What a waste. In my opinion there are few thing more dangerous in the game than a HI link where everyone has Close combat skills, it’s not only a defence against cheap cc specialists but also give them defence against reactive out of LoF hacking. You even get a doctor to bring people back! But you’re right, it’s so expensive you can’t waste orders dicking about.

The guys who do don't play MO or even PanO as their primary army. The last time it happened it was a 400 point tournament and the link barely made it to midfield most of the time since the player didn't consider that that all of us were bringing 400 points worth of firepower.
