Some of the bribes were in exchange for a few trivial parcels of the US uranium supply. No biggie. The people involved in that tried to get Trump dirty by sending some of their Russian pals to peddle Clinton dirt, so he couldn't be a threat, but Jr didn't bite, so it didn't pan out. Spying on the Trump campaign went on regardless and the dossier was crafted to retroactively justify it. The US dodged a bullet, IMO.
