She has a bit of an unconventional look about her a la Maggie Gyllenhaal so I get why some people wouldn't be into her, but calling almost any actress ugly is absurd. You pretty much need to be in like the 95th percentile of human attractiveness to get lead work.

Reminds me of another fitting thing (maybe more for the IIMM thread): Mean Girls and Easy A, while both very funny, have to overcome the idea that Lindsay Lohan and Emma Stone wouldn't have boys falling all over themselves for them in high school. I think that they try to play up their personalities as part of it but that wouldn't really matter to 16-year-olds.

I guess Lindsay Lohan being lovable and Rachel McAdams being a psycho aged poorly.

Kirsten Dunst has a mature face. I think that was disconcerting to some people when she was younger.

Which means she's just getting cuter as she ages (see Fargo).

In the first episode of season 2 of Ally McBeal "The Real World" - Ally and John defend a woman (Laura) in her late 30s who hosed a 16-year-old boy.

Ally meets the boy who is now 18 and wants to gently caress him too. She talks to her therapist about it who says it's not a big deal and obviously everyone wants to gently caress teens otherwise why would there be statutory rape laws in the first place, duh?

They make a big point about a) how lonely the woman was b) that the boy is very hot and also wise and was very into it, and inexplicably c) that the boy was definitely a virgin before this woman had sex with him which you'd think would make the whole thing creepier but is obviously meant to be sentimental and sweet.

The prosecution keeps trying to come back to the fact that this was statutory rape so it doesn't matter how romantic this all is. The defendant says that she likes boys because: "Emotionally, I think things die in men as they get older, they lose the essence of the very thing a woman most wants- simple intimacy" Later on in the episode John says privately to Ally that it's absolutely true that men die emotionally when they get older.

Ally uses the phrase: "I think I'm meant for a boy".

In court John says he saw a movie once where a teenage boy sleeps with a 30 something woman and it was great and that's what people wanted to see in that movie and that there aren't any laws when it comes to love (please ignore the statutory rape law the prosecution keeps trying to bring up) and that Laura both committed an INSANE act of passion and love but also that the TRULY insane thing to do would have been NOT to gently caress this 16 year old.

The jury finds the defendant not guilty by reason of temporary insanity. Happy ending.

There's so much wrong in that episode per the summary that I'm half tempted to see if the person who wrote it has been accused of child molestation. Plus, what the hell does 'something in men dies as they get older' supposed to mean? It sounds like justification city.

Adolescent me heavily disagreed re: Kirsten Dunst in Spider-Man.

A few pages ago people talked about how bad the Simpsons 90s flashback episode was, but honestly one of the more baffling choices comes from the actual era: in the Lollapalooza episode, the festival features Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth and Cypress Hill, which is spot on. But the headliner is...Peter Frampton, one of the most uncool boomer rockers ever.

(I am aware that Sonic Youth are technically baby boomers, but they're icons of Gen X music).

I think they were wisely anticipating "Bluesfest" 2018 in Australia, a once hip blues & roots festival, where this year's headliner is noted lame has-been joke Lionel Ritchie.

Exploration is ill-advised.
I remember Sugar and Spice oddly well. I think because I was bored at someone else's place or a hotel room and it was the only thing on.

The head cheerleader gets pregnant by the football team captain, both their families disown them, so the cheerleaders decide to rob a bank to raise money for her. I remember it being a pretty entertaining and interesting farce, given about half the movie is build-up and preparation for the heist itself, then the heist, then the rest is the aftermath and trying to keep ahead of the investigation. Then the boyfriend, none the wiser, ends up a senator.

Are bank robbers more sympathetic nowadays?

Probably depends on the bank/who its clients are. Johnny Rotten was reportedly very angry about the other Sex Pistols collaborating with Ronnie Biggs on the "No One Is Innocent" single because his view was that Biggs had "stolen working class money" in the Great Train Robbery.

It's like Robin Hood; people like Robin Hood because he steals from the rich and gives to the poor. If he stole from the rich and kept it all for himself, people might have a different opinion.
