BraveUlysses posted:also there's a campaign for replacing subaru CVTs that failed too early We have a 2011 Legacy and it literally hasn't needed anything but had a campaign for the wiper motor or something. Runs perfectly great (for now I suppose) and CVT has never given us a single problem. It's at least as if not more reliable than our previous Hondas or Toyotas. I'm in and I just recently received a letter from Subaru saying they are extending the warranty on the CVT and related systems for 10 years but also made it clear there was no recalls or anything.... but obviously something must have happened to make them see a need to up the warranty on them.

Man, in an ironic twist I need a loud exhaust so I don't drive like an rear end in a top hat. I keep finding myself doing 10-15 over on surface streets cause I don't have that auditory feedback anymore.

Cop Porn Popper posted:So I fell a week ago and smashed my shoulder. The pain from it started off rather deep in my shoulder and slowly moved up and into my chest. I've tolerated it until this sunday when it got much worse. I tried relaxing it with Tylenol and a heating pad monday and tuesday to not much avail. Gave up and went to the ER after work tonight fearing a broken rib/shoulder/collar bone. Xray shows no obvious breaks or other cause so I got a pile of pain pills and a referral to an orthopedic doctor. Its the same doctor that hosed up his billing last time I went and stuck me with medical bills on my credit report despite them showing paid. Time to go doctor shopping I guess. Did they tell you to continue any heat or cold treatment at home?
edit: I also broke my loving knuckle. Like shop was surprised my wheel didn't fall off on the way there (fun times: I heard a very, very light clunk in my suspension on my way back from vegas, continued the drive home, fuuuuuuuck, coulda died). Some subaru dealer apparently stripped out the threads in the knuckle before, secured the bolts with nuts, which changed the stresses and almost killed me. Fuckers. . . .
Hopefully that wasn't us. We would have had the ball joints out to remove the transmission (to get the axles out of the way). Seems unlikely since Adan was the guy who told me not to ever do that. I guess because you are clamping from the end instead of pulling through with the threads. So it would result in all the force on the edge of the upright opposite the ball joint instead of somewhat distributed through the whole thing.

There's enough believeable horror stories about the cost of CVT replacement that I extended my warranty only due to the CVT. I hate to think how many CVT equipped cars are going to be junked straight out well before they should be just simply due to CVT failure (And not just Subaru)..... let alone the "benefits" of a CVT re: fuel consumption are pretty much bullshit. Almost all improvements in Subarus are down to the DI engines NOT transmissions.

Still laughing at a friend who read an article in Popular Science way back in 2003 or 2004 who proclaimed at the time "in 10 years you won't even be able to buy a car with anything besides a CVT because they're so awesome." Then his in-laws got a Ford Freestyle in 2005 and he couldn't believe how terrible the transmission was - even when it was new.

My poor SRT-4 is still collecting dust in the driveway since September. To be fair, CVT's have improved greatly since then, the current high performance CVT's Subaru have are.... well... passable. Mitsubitshi ones are still hosed in the head tho. Still, CVT's have power and weight limits, they dont like towing or hot weather, they can wear out frighteningly fast, not a single "benefit" cant be matched or exceeded by a traditional gearbox, heavy, more complex than what they appear on paper etc and DEF not faster when you want to hustle. OTOH... they work really well with automated car systems, stop / start traffic and cruising long distances. EDIT : I rather like hustling the Levorg in fake gear mode, paddles are fuuuuuuuun. But you can do that on a normal auto so....... CAT INTERCEPTOR fucked around with this message at 23:08 on Jan 11, 2018 |

so to sum up my 2018 so far: -my dad was catfished and convinced to launder money for boko haram and sell stolen iphones sent to him at a pawn shop and it never occurred to him that wiring money to someone out of country nor selling random iphones could be bad --i was able to figure this out by yoinking the gps meta data of a picture they sent him of a receipt and the GPS was in the sudan so fuckin lol -my dad simultaneously allowed people to come live with him who "were going to buy his house cash from him as soon as their other business transaction completes real dang soon" and now he has literal squatters with him --we ran a background check and the dude has filed for bankruptcy twice in the last ten years and has three outstanding bench warrants --my dad thinks theyre his friends and that they are actually wealthy even though we've presented numerous sources to prove the opposite --we think that my dad may be mentally slipping based on all of this, and at the very least hasn't handled his grief from losing our mother yet which is why he is ok with squatters making excuses to not leave even though he has asked them to leave -we are considering getting Power of Attorney in order to get this sorted once in for all but we're worried that it will backfire on us so how is everyone else doing

I copped a heap of those attacks at the end of 2016 due to my father's health and not being able to find somewhere that could handle his Alzheimers. Occasionally I will get one, maybe once every two months. Just disconnect from everything, close your eyes, and take deep breaths. I find that calms me down. It is also worth finding a good counsellor or therapist who you can open up to, as I found I had a few things that I needed to say that I didn't (or in some cases couldn't) really want to bring up with to other family members or friends.

Today has just been terrible. One year ago my friend was murdered and there has been zero progress on catching the killer. We found out the police knew who it was but he was too valuable to another case so he remained at large and has now vanished so she'll never get justice. I've been trying to distract myself all day but I keep dropping back to these low places and I am gutted because I really and truly failed her in life and it's like I'm being stabbed in the heart over and over again.

Unrelated to people health (thank god), my solar system stopped producing power late in the day on Tuesday. On Wednesday it stopped communicating home to the solar company. I was not aware of either of these things because I don't look at it very often. I noticed this morning in the garage that it was showing 0 output and a red warning light and the display showed "Riso Low". So I called Solar City who owns it (leased). They looked up the account, saw the system I had and said that they would have to replace the entire system, panels and converter both. For once in my life I apparently made the right choice to take lower savings on the system in exchange for leaving the entire risk side for system failure or damage with someone else, so now Solar City has to replace the entire system which would be 4 years old next month. Sorry about everyone's health and parents problems, hope you all get them sorted out.

Still can't really hang out at those bars, since I immediately want to go bullshit with all the other regulars and chain smoke for hours. I picked up a blu Plus that I actually really like.
