turn off the TV posted:Eh. It's just kind of always bothered me that in Total War games a horses can't just push over a random guy and walk over him. If the Skaven have to suffer for it then such is life. Try Brutal Battles mod. One change is making cavalry have more physical oomph which lets them Slam through many units that aren't tight packed and braced.

Haberdashery of the Old World Part 2 This is a classic of tall hat design. Every tall hat you see is going to be trying to live up to these clean lines and simple ornamentation. Honestly, a lot of the time adding to this look just ends up making it worse. The enamel decorations around the face make this a fancy piece without busying it up too much. Notice how the outlines of the enamel naturally emphasize the overall shape. The horsetail puts a bright flair on it with plenty of bounce and body. Hard to see how you beat this restrained yet attention-getting masterpiece. 10/10 Here's an example where simple and clean can go too far. This isn't even really a hat, and those cheek guards just look ridiculous on a design that's clearly 100% form and 0% function. Negative points for the design on the front, which is so small and busy you can't tell what it is from five feet away. D/10 And here's the worst of both worlds. The shape says "tall, simple, clean lines" but the decoration around the face says "busy busy busy". Worse still the blocky and angular decorations detract from the upward thrust that's central to tall hat designs. Melt this one down and start over. 2/10 I'm gonna be honest here: I wanted to hate this hat. It's basically a soft cap over a tall steel helmet, and I'm not a fan of soft caps. And the feathers just looked out of place. But I can't hate this hat. In fact I love it. It's goofy, it's got fabric draping everywhere, but it owns the hell out of it with bright embroidered colors and patterns. Even the feathers don't look that weird in those bold swatches of color. Bonus points for sun protection and comfort on long hot rides. 9/10 This is what the hat at number three on the column wishes it was. Simple, elegant, and the decoration sweeps up into the curve. For those who want to buy one hat and be able to go out for the next 5000 years without worrying about looking like you're behind the times. Beware though: accessorizing options are limited. 9/10 This is basically the biggest fashion faux pas I've ever seen from Ulthuan. What is that, a pineapple? A gilded feather? There's even a saying about how useless that is. Again the cheek guards take this from the ridiculous to the truly farcical. F/10 For anyone who cares, this is the best take on this look I've seen and... it's not great? Sure the feather arrangement is impeccable and the phoenix motif is well-executed but... it's still an open circlet with cheek guards. Call me a curmudgeon but I can't help but think this looks a little silly, even when it's done by the fashion-conscious. Let's call this one "daring." C+/10 I thought we might need a palate cleanser here. Majestic. 12/10 Arglebargle III fucked around with this message at 02:28 on Jan 12, 2018 |

Isn't haberdashery like, sewing supplies and stuff? Buttons and what not? What's that got to do with hats?

Miriam-Webster: At various times throughout its history, the term "haberdasher" has referred to a dealer of hats or caps, a seller of notions (sewing supplies such as needles and thimbles), and apparently (perhaps somewhat coyly) as a person who sells liquor. Nowadays, with hats not being as fashionable as they once were, the word mostly is applied generally as a clothing outfitter for men, with "haberdashery" referring to the establishment or the goods sold there. Haberdasher derives via Middle English from "hapertas," an Anglo-French word for a kind of cloth, as does the obsolete noun "haberdash," which once meant petty merchandise or small wares.
