I wonder if you can solo kill thargoids with an FAS.

It is possible to solo a Cyclops in an FAS if it is god-rolled engineered and you are the second coming of Wedge Antilles

Most solos that I've seen tend to be using an Anaconda, a Cutter, or a Type-10.

You must hop from uss to uss to find thargoids.

I don't think you can use a cobra for fighting them, but probably you can use it for the salvage cg, just remember the following things:

- keep a jump plotted in the galaxy map for high waking the gently caress out
- the middle of the uss has a mass lock
- you have some time before the thargoids becomes aggressive even if they deploy the swarm (but be wary when they do) also don't fly under their nose
- you can use the destroyed clippers or fdls to fool the thargoid into not blocking your path towards the escape podcasts canisters (on the other hand you could play it a bit safer to kite him into an uninteresting canister then you bank towards the escape pods)

You can also wait at the borders of the uss for the thargoid tournament go away.

Aw jeez I did not read clearly and I assumed the CG was for bounty hunting like "protect [sysname]" usually is. Thank you for this reality check! Yeah I'll probably just do SAR then, I don't feel like climbing into my big ships to fight goids.

Any tips or strategy for solo’ing thargoids in an anaconda? You’re supposed to use the fixed aX weapons correct? I’ve never killed one but I watched a video and it appears to be a game of shoot missles—>shoot heart with multicannons—>run away until shield falls—>repeat.

I’m not sure whether a fighter would help, a t-10 would be better than an anaconda, or if it’s really not possible regardless solo. This is a weird cg.

I'm currently outfitting a Type-10 to try it soloing. Type-10 seems to be the simplest solo method because it relies on hull tanking rather than agility or speed like the other superheavies do, as in you buy 4 large turreted ax multicannons and melt anything you target.

I would say that fighters are a must simply for the purposes of keeping the thargon swarm busy.

If you are going to do it in an anaconda you have the advantage of being able to outfit 4 large AX weapons as well. Most people don't use missiles nowadays because large multicannons are easier to aim and do an insane amount of damage. In an Anaconda you will probably want fixed.

You will also want military grade composite. Hull strength is important against Thargoids.

Oh so you don’t need to use missiles to exert the heart or whatever first? The entire fight can be done with the multicannons? I tried a fight just now and had a lot of trouble aiming fixed MCs at the sub target so I may use turreted cannons. I also noticed that I think I need point defense systems for those caustic missiles they shoot.

This is definitely a different type of fighting. If anyone is on Xbox and wants to play in a wing and fight these together in the CG system, I’d love it. My xbone name is meatbishop and you can friend me and PM me on it. I am pacific time zone.

Point defense does nothing against caustic missiles. There are 3 ways to deal with them:

1. Outrun them. This is basically only possible in a Cutter but they will self-detonate if you get 3 km (I think) away from them.

2. Burn off the caustic effect. If your heat goes over like 250 it neutralizes the caustic substance. You do this via silent running.

3. Have such a strong hull that you can basically ignore the ticking damage. This requires god-tier engineering rolls.

If you are in a wing most people will just straight up go and repair if they get hit with caustic. Lots of Thargoid farming wings rotate people in and out of fights so that they can go repair and restock.

Also, if you are trying to solo, only try on Cyclops variants (Threat 5 USS). I have only seen the best and most experienced pilots solo Basilisks (Threat 6) and to my knowledge nobody has soloed a Medusa (Threat 7)

What's the current state of mission rewards? When I last played not too long ago it still seemed they were generally too low, but more importantly there was very little progression scaling. Have they fixed that already, in which case what are they going to do with them in this Beyond.1 overhaul?

There's a shitload of weirdness with missions. Like the exact same data courier mission might pay you 30,000 or 140,000, depending on whether it's rated "elite" or "harmless". As far as I can tell, there's nothing to make the lower-paid mission any easier than the higher-paid one, and you'll still get harmless missions when you're elite and you'll still get elite missions when you're harmless.

There does appear to be higher rewards for more distant missions. I was doing Ceos -> Sothis delivery missions and was getting significantly less money per mission than I am going between Gang Yun and Hip 64706. The main difference between the routes is that the Hip 64706 station is 20,000 Ls from the warp-in zone, while all the other stations are much closer.

I think the current mission system should be scrapped in favour of one that:

1. Only allows you to take a single mission at a time
2. Ensures that that single mission is adequately compensated for how long and risky it will be (so missions where your ship might reasonably be lost should be much more rewarding than safe deliveries)
3. Ensures that something interesting and unexpected happens on every mission. A thargoid interdicts you. Your mission giver doesn't pay you and you have to chase him down and shoot out his FSD to get paid. Something like that. It would require them to make NPC interdictions actually threatening, though, 99% of the time if you get interdicted you can just submit and then warp away.

Alternatively if the current "stack 20 identical missions" mechanic is what they actually want, they should just let us land at a station, say, "I want 20 delivery missions to Hip 64706, queue them up" and it does that for us. The current optimal play of "look up the best place to grind on Reddit and then log in and out five times per visit to get the missions you want" is simultaneously lovely and also the only feasible way to get to the higher ranks in the two militaries.

And while I'm ranting, how the gently caress could they not come up with twelve interesting missions for us to do to gain rank in the military? Going from Serf to Duke entirely by courier mission stinks.

Engineers can take materials and improve different modules. You have to unlock the Engineers by discovering them and doing a specific task depending on who they are. The improvements they can provide are graded from 1 to 5 with increased improvements depending on that grade.

I see that their upcoming game updates in q1 will bring more thargoid stuff and encourage fighting them. I like how this "thargoid war" is unfolding in-game with all the stations being attacked and the current CG. The main problem I have is that it is hardly accessible from a Solo play standpoint. Killing a thargoid solo so far seems very difficult. Maybe they will bring smaller, easier to kill enemies? But I dunno.

Yes, but they turn into cargo canisters rather than spacesuits and given the realistic distances involved you won't be able to see them actually hit the star.

Long-term goals are largely up to your own imagination and grinding preferences.

PowerPlay is mostly about getting into the weeds of RPing and player politics, but if you want to do it look up which gear comes from which character and base your decision on that.

That's E:D's conundrum. A significant part of its core appeal is living out the aforementioned sim fantasies but that turns off people who are more interested in a conventional MMO.
