Oh! So two Italian guilty pleasures are the Stars Crusaders and Helalyn Flowers, who I would describe as 90s-cybergoth Razed in Black thrown into a blender with Spagna.

Oh Razed in Black.... that's not him in the background of that album cover but he could've fooled me. Flowers is also mangling the English through her accent in this one but she can really belt it during the refrain.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6xSnbz71bQ

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xk1kLZ6y0J4

(The props in that video are amazing. And the outfits. And the hairspray.)

Chris Pohl actually did a song with Flowers called (what else?) "Beware of Light." Italian directors shooting some of his recent videos. I think Blutengel is basically a gothic Italo-Disco project.

Edit: This thread is now the Bon Jovi thread.

Also what does Project Pitchfork listen to backstage?

Italo-Disco.

That also reminds me of a Daniel Myer interview I read once where he said he grew up listening to lots of Den Harrow.

I think I've noted before that EBM and especially futurepop is Hi-NRG disco in a minor key with shouty German men instead of disco divas.

Tom Hooker, who sang many of the songs for Den Harrow, has also been recording new songs under the tongue-in-cheek name Tom Harrow.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qZeBFrdflg

The front man for the group was a male model named Stefano Zandri. The controversy blew up a few years ago in the Italian press as I believe Zandri was going around claiming he had sang on the recordings.

Rediscovering Robert Alfons' work. I keep forgetting how hard Trust (TR/ST?) bangs. This came some months ago, but I'm impressed by how good it is. Really looking forward to his new album early next year.

Both of the albums he's put out so far are really good. He's part of the gloomy Canadian synthpop continuum. Maya Postepski, Austra's drummer, used to be in Trust, but left to focus on Austra and her solo work.

Fake edit: :tviv: Maya apparently left Austra in May and rejoined TR/ST. A little sad about this, since I loved the Austra trio's chemistry, but overall excited, since Austra's albums since their debut have disappointed me, and Trust's 2012 album (which she worked on) is my favorite. She says the new stuff they've been working on will be darker. :black101:

TR/ST has been my favorite band since I discovered them back in 2013. People who dig him should check out his demo-reels from before TR/ST which a buddy of his or something put out on YouTube. There's some proto-versions of a bunch of the tracks from the first album and it's interesting to see how far he's gotten production-wise. Also some mix-tapes which really shows his influences available.

Happy to hear that Maya is returning, hopefully this means a faster turnaround, because the wait after Joyland has been painfully long and Robert seems content to just repeatedly tour his old stuff in Mexico without someone to give him a kick in the butt.

TR/ST puts on an incredible live show, too. One of the few bands I've traveled to see - he put on a great show in a Chicago dive bar a few years ago that was incredible. Every time he comes to Denver I'm impressed by his constant energy and drive.

How're Ministry live? They're playing with Chelsea Wolfe this spring (which is... weird? I dunno) for a bunch of shows. Chelsea is great live, never seen Ministry.

Grendel and Aesthetic Perfection are also playing Boston. Neither show is crazy expensive ($45 Ministry/CW and $20 AP/Grendel I think).

It's a weird time and I'm super nostalgic about ministry. Al's gotten wizened and he barely moved around the last show I went to.
If it's a bucket list thing, go absolutely, but the energy isn't there like it used to be.

Yeah you should see Ministry one time, but know they'll mostly play new stuff. I caught the MasterBaTour where they had RevCo open and there was a decent chunk of old guard personnel along for the ride. Now I'm pretty sure it's just Al.

You know, I'd be less worried about my 16 year old daughter dating a successful 40 year old cartoonist than dating a 16 year old loser.

I mean, Jesus, kid, at least date a motherfucker with abortion money and house to have sex at where your mother and I don't have to hear it. Also, if he treats her poorly, boom, that asshole's gonna catch a statch charge.

Please, John K. Date my daughter... Save her from dating smelly dropouts who wanna-be Soundcloud rappers.

Al Jourgensen is great if you like talentless junkies, birthday clowns or annoying people who constantly latch onto political bandwagons so they can cynically sell you something.

I like all three but the last time I saw them, they didn't play enough of their old stuff and that was the real crime imo.

Ministry has been pretty bad live for awhile now but I'll go and hope my theory that a Trump presidency has put some life into aging industrial acts. Haujobb, Cubanate and RevCo were all great last year.

It's not even that FLA was that bad, Bill was just pretty clearly going through the motions. It was just disappointing after seeing Cubanate and RevCo just tear it up that night. I doubt the David/Luc lineup of RevCo could put on a show that wasn't entertaining.

The news of Jeremy Inkel's death however is really quite sad.
