CJacobs posted:For thread related content, here is a mod that is awesome (I promise). It adds actual properly working and animated diagonal player movement to Fallout New Vegas, something that hasn't been included in a single gamebryo engine game in over a decade. In a weird sort of way my brain almost prefers the original movement. The modded movement looks almost right but something about the way the waist pivots is wrong and my brain doesn't care for that at all. On the other hand the original movement is just so clearly wrong and broken my brain just shrugs and goes "Yeah it's a video game." I guess what I'm describing is similar to the uncanny valley but it's not really the same thing. Maybe it's just stockholm syndrome from years and years of lovely Gamebryo animations though.

Another great thing about the FAKEFACTORY CINEMATIC BRIDGES AND TITTIES OVERHAUL is that a lot of the extremely huge textures are extremely huge because he simply tiled the same texture, wasting four times the VRAM for literally no reason whatsoever.

I recall the pistol specifically got a lot of flak because it sounds real weak and is immediately useless once you get the smg. CJacobs fucked around with this message at 07:15 on Jan 15, 2018 |

My hot take is that HL2 wasn't even a good shooter in its time - the evidence is quite plainly there in the sheer amount of non-shooting that it consists of.

Half Life 2 was ahead of it's time and it would've been better if they did actually pull off the 2003 release date. They weren't able to anyway, but the german hacker leaking the alpha didn't do them any favors, and that's how Far Cry got a huge amount of attention by releasing first. My only problem with Half Life 2 is the "human" AI. Fighting the marines in HL1 was fun and they actually take cover, some run away if they take too much damage or need to reload and throw grenades to try and flush you out. It seems the only thing the Overwatch do are run straight at you and throw grenades, and the CPs do the same thing Overwatch do minus throw grenades. Would've been interesting to have them throw man hacks to flush you out as part of the AI and not just a trigger. Don't know what you guys are talking about, the guns are awesome. well except the Shotgun. Wished they kept the one from the E3 demonstration.

I played HL2. Couldn't bring myself to pay attention during the cutscenes, which was made worse by the fact that I could move around like an rear end in a top hat Apparently the g man shows up periodically through the game but I never did see him. To make a weird comparison, I look at Another World/Out of This World the same way people look at Half-Life 2; it's a game that I don't particularly care for or understand the hype for, but it was remarkable for the time and resonates better with the people who grew up with it. Alternatively, the reason why Half-Life 2 is viewed so poorly in retrospect is because so many other shooters that followed tried to mimic or replicate the things that Half-Life 2 did, so looking at HL2 in the wake of others games, it doesn't really seem to do anything really special. I'm not trying to sound like, "Um, no! HL2 iz the bestest game ever made! How else did it win 2500 GOTY awards?" I just mean to say that HL2 isn't necessarily bad or overrated. Sections like the boat and jeep stretch on for way too long, and the some of the weapons feel pretty weak. However, I think it's still worth playing. All that being said...
