You and me both man. Minor rant... since Texas has a deregulated electricity market, it's up to the Transmission and Distribution Utility (company that owns the lines) to read the meters, then send that data to your retail electric provider. My power company has no loving clue what date that will happen on; I can call the TDU, but they're not open weekends, and will likely be closed Monday. Last bill cycle it bit me in the rear end because they read it a day earlier than I expected, and I lost out on a $70 bill credit by 23 kWh. This bill cycle... I'm really hoping they read it already. I'm within 130 kWh of going over the limit to get any bill credit, with electric heat and another cold front. I can do an on demand read, and I can see history for 2 years, but I don't get the monthly read until a few days after it's happened. The only pattern I've been able to come up with is they always do the read on a weekday, and always between the 11th and 17th (once on both days, most of them are on the 13th-15th). I'm really hoping they read it Friday; if not, if I bring this place up to a comfortable temp for the weekend, my bill may wind up being over $200, vs the ~$100 I'm projecting now. Jan 2016 they read it the Thursday before MLK day, Jan 2017 they read it the Friday before MLK day, so I'm hoping they hit it Friday. Some bill cycles have been as long as 35 days. I'm on day 32 (as of midnight). Deregulation is a great thing, right guys? I finally cranked up the heater tonight. I'm gonna at least get it nice and warm while I'm awake; it's been at 55-60 for the past few days. randomidiot fucked around with this message at 09:06 on Jan 14, 2018 |

Five and a half hours into my Sunday and I've played a safety DVD for some new contractors, signed one hot work permit and assisted our crane operator stacking trailers on top of each other. I'm probably going to be here 10 hours total, I'd lose my mind if it wasn't double pay.

A couple years ago where I work they reduced double time to time and a half for OT. Still triple on statutory holidays though. The funny thing is ever since the change all the upper management folks whine constantly about how hard it is to get anyone to sign up for OT anymore.

Guaranteed they know the billing cycles for the whole year beforehand...on ours each billing cycle is given a billing day (mine is the 15th), and that only changes if the 15th is on the weekend. In that case, if it's a Saturday it goes to the 14th, Sunday it goes to the 16th.

All I can say to that is buy it at Costco, either in store or online. I bought a high end Sealy online from them and after 5-6 years it was starting to sag and the pillow top was feeling a little flat. I asked Costco about it since it was supposed to have something like a 25 year warranty on it and they just told me outright to bring it back for a 100% refund. No bullshit, no hassle, nothing and they apologized to me having to return it. Anyone else I am sure I would have had a song and dance and if I was lucky to get any kind of refund/credit it would have been pro-rated out the rear end.

My parents bought a VERY expensive mattress and after a couple years it had compressed where they slept. Dad called to complain and they told him if it didn't measure so much sag in so many locations they wouldn't do anything. He took measurements and sure enough it wasn't bad enough to qualify. On top of the mattress we bought a 1" memory foam 'mattress topper' that really made a difference. We tossed one on the worn out mattress we have in the guest bedroom and it's like new. Think they're around $100 USD, not sure what they'd be over there. NitroSpazzz fucked around with this message at 21:41 on Jan 14, 2018 |

bolind posted:It's the same it's ever been - Copenhagen, Denmark. I found the IKEA stuff to be pretty good and you can try them in-store without the usual hovering sales people to slightly creep you out. Much cheaper than the other places and seems to be comparable in quality: even if they only last 5 years instead of 25, it works out cheaper. Plus you don't have a mattress with 50kg of dead skin cells in it after 20 years.

We bought a latex mattress from ikea about 8 years ago and I have zero complaints. Firm without being too firm, same thing with heat retention. It's basically a slab of whipped rubber with holes poked in it so when it gets flipped/rotated it's like brand new again. Not sure what their policy is in Europe/Denmark but in the US you can exchange a mattress once within a year if you end up not liking it.

bolind posted:The missus and I are moving, and we've decided to splurge on new, good beds. Where the gently caress does one even start? I'm not in the US, but does anyone have some good tips on how to go about it? I got a silentnight mattress, thick foam on top with a big spring count lower and I have loving loved it, feel it was money well spent. I forget the model but it doesn't matter- see below. Go high spring count if it's sprung, and remember you spend a third of your life on this thing when budgeting. Foam is comfy as hell and I'm never going back but all foam didn't have the bounce I'm used to, so a combo is perfect. Most places are gonna have a price match guarantee. It doesn't mean poo poo, as manufacturers make eleventy dozen similar models and give individual exclusive lines to specific retailers. A shop has the best price on the "regal duchy 1350 spring count" because no other fucker sells it, and the "regal duke 1325 spring count" from the same manufacturer sold by a competitor is entirely different, they swear. "No hassle money back guarantees" or "try before you buy" are bullshit too- the fine print essentially says that if the mattress isnt spotless when they inspect it on return- gently caress you, pay us. Find what type and firmness you want by shopping around, find a cheap one and go for it. It can take a week or two to get used to a new one, so don't panic if the first few nights aren't quite there comfort wise. Most delivery places will take your old one away, which can be a pain otherwise.
