The only way to write Wonder Woman is to make her Steve Rogers, got it

ed: Like, I mean, lol. Don't use a movie that's beat-for-beat a copy of a Marvel movie as the One True Characterization of one of the best female supes if not the best ever, especially in direct comparison to Rucka WW, which we just got a story all about how her different characterizations are equally valid, and is way more applicable to the current medium (being, you know, a comic and not a movie) and frankly just a flat out better version of WW than pretty much any other. I'll take WW: Year One as The Definitive Take a billion zillion times over the movie version
Of course I want writers to make her like Rucka's version, weirdo. Rucka returning to the character is the only reason I gave DC Rebirth a chance again. But DC at the moment seems determined to ignore it as much as they can. Why? My only empirical unbiased conclusion is that they're dumb as bricks. James Robinson, who is ostensibly Rucka's longterm successor on the WW book, has pretty much proven that he either hasn't even read Rucka's plots, doesn't care enough to respect them, or is too dumb to understand them. Check out the issue of Trinity that came out today to see just how much Robinson didn't understand Rucka's WW canon, even in a story that directly follows up on that exact canon.

There's actually lots of different WW versions that I wish writers would reference more. Like, I wish more writers would look to Perez, or Jimenez, or Rucka, or even bits of Simone when handling Wonder Woman, but time and time again DC writers have proven that they seem outright physically unable to model their Dianas on the best versions of her and instead always seem, without fail, to lean towards really outdated and unappealing versions of the character. The one who talks about men like they're an entirely different, inferior species. The one who just wants to fight and fight and fight some more. The one who's only there so Superman or Batman can want to gently caress her. Like, we all read Kingdom Come, DC! Get over Kingdom Come!

That's what I mean when I said so many writers are stuck on this character. The reason I use the movie as an example, though, is that there's no excuse anymore for anyone to plead ignorance on her. It's a huge friggin' success. It's mega popular. It's one of the best performing comic book anythings from either Marvel or DC. So if you're still writing a version of Diana that the 2017 movie Diana would probably punch in the face, you're really doing something wrong and showing your inability to change your attitude towards Wonder Woman and have no excuse for it.

 I kinda liked King's Wonder Woman, but I'm not really attached to any notion of Wonder Woman already. It seems like she's had more than a few wildly different characterizations in the past ten years and none of them have stuck, so gently caress it, why not? I can get why WW fans don't like it though.

I was far more taken aback by yhe 10 years in a pocket dimension. That seems like it should be a huge development for a character and not something done in two issues. At least when it happened to (Marvel spoiler) Captain America it was an entire 12 issues or so that had consequences (for a while).

Well I mean I read his adventures in random issues of Adventure comics when it was an anthology title. And I liked his stupid costume. But I have never read his initial mini (didn't he bust up a porn film or something) so fine, I will concede Wild Dog to you, but I am keeping Deadshot and Firestorm.

The run in which he said the previous iteration was an invalid lie? What?

Also gently caress Batman, Aquaman was sooo good this month with gorgeous art as usual.

It's been such a step up in quality since Abnett got Sejic and began the Rath storyline. It doesn't get nearly enough love.

Also I'm still really enjoying Priest's JL run. Political JL has such a potential to be terrible but I think Priest has a reasonable handle on it though I'm not quite impressed with The Fan as a villain.

First time reading Aquaman this week. I'd never guess he was having all these problems from the other series. This is cool.

Supersons of Tomorrow was...meh.

Superman was "awwwwww."

Batman was weird. Not liking that twist. Also, who the gently caress is "Gentle Man?"

Green Lanterns is still fun, but not amazing.

Damage felt...kind of meandering and aimless, really.

Might just want to knock that down to Wally West. There isn't a character in comics I'd rather see removed more than Barry.

I also qualify as a Starman stan but there's rarely any new Starman news for me to grumble over. Every few years I get to say something about Shade, I guess.

Final Crisis stuff

Ok, the big picture stuff without the metaphorical bits sounds roughly like what I understood. I'd just heard some people say they were confused by Mandrakk, and aside from that initial confusion about how SB was going to tie-in, I found it to be fairly simple, it's just two stories that happen at the same time, kinda like Arkham City. I also want to say that I really like Nix Uotan, it's a shame we'll only see him when there's a big event going on.

Went to my local comics shop today, got confirmation that Infinity Man and the Forever People never got a trade release, and picked up Godhead, Omega Men, Howard Chaykin's Twilight, and the Raven miniseries that came out recently (not her emo one).

As for those characters we have, I think mine might be Azrael. Or Steph? Or over at Marvel, the Sagittarians as a whole.

Not even edgy. Basically, it's Hulk, but made by the government and has built in time limits. And their alter ego is a voice in the others' head. Otherwise it's just Hulk.
