Completely free and open piracy that the manufacturer could not prevent is commonly attributed as one of the major reasons Sega dropped the Dreamcast. There was a lot of speculation that Nintendo would do the same for the 3DS, but they weathered it ok. It may have been a factor in Sony forgetting about the Vita, but I think they were ready to kill the thing before it went out the door. It's really early in the console's lifestyle for something like this to happen. I think the Dreamcast is one of the only close examples.

also vita piracy only works now from games made before world of final fantasy. sony switched the firmware to 3.61 required for everything the week woff came out. nerds figured out that they could swap it back to 3.60 since it was done in name only at the last second makes me a lil nervous bc i really wanna play the new version of Catherine coming out

I mean the last Nintendo console I owned was a Nintendo 64 so I guess it’s different from the Wii-U in the sense that I actually wanted one  Not acting like I’m the end all and be all consumer but there’s something to it.

PPSSPP works really good. e: Nintendo has been banking money with retro-hardware. The lust & amount of cash perople were willing to pay for the NES-Fanicom re-release is just wow.

I think it still has a long way to go to do better than the latter. It's a good console, though. I just wish even first party games wouldn't gently caress with non-standard and low resolutions and still struggle to get to 30 FPS.

I too have a wii collecting dust bunnies in my place. One unexpected day it will be powered on, and wii sports punchout will happen. Oh yeah, anyone else remember CarWars, the pen&paper RPG (and one-off apple2 video game called Autoduel) where you designed a murdercar/murder-motorcycle/murder-tricycle/murder-truck/murder-atv/murder-speedboat/etc with armor & weapons, and then roamed around a gameworld doing mad max style courier missions, or just pre-Carmaggedon arena deathmatches/races? Bundleofholding has a bunch of CarWars RPG sourcebooks & supplements up for purchase until first week of february.

CDProjket, Deep Shadows, and GSC gameworld are the only developers I could see making a non-gimped modern remake. The starting desert planet in the Precursors gave me the strongest vibe of Autoduel fun. Dune buggy-style vehicles roamed around the desert planet, bandit gangs would occasionally hold you up or have firefights with wildlife, wildlife would occasionally get pissed off at everything, you could offroad & run over notDeathclaws/bandits, roadside people would randomly have tasks or fruit for you, dune buggies got realisticly damaged and ran out of gas and ammo, and tires on vehicles would pop slowing you down/making the vehicle handle worse. You could repair car damage, but that wouldn't fix the no-gas problem or the popped tires or the out of ammo problems. Lugging around gas cans & looted spare tires fixed the 1st 2 two problems, getting overcharged by mechanics at the desert planet garage-outpost was the only way to re-ammo cars.....or you could skip all that and run around on foot or carjack civilians. Never made it past the part in precursors where you unlocked a spaceship & had access to other planets though, there was a plot however you needed to understand russian or use the english fan mod pack for the plot to make sense. After explaining all that, I now badly want a mashup of the STALKER games + Deep Shadows games(the makers of the Precursors and xenus 2+ Boiling point). STALKER games bring the basic gameplay & gunporn, Deep Shadows brings the crazily detailed car system + the improved faction systems + the merchants who only deal in looted tires.

Ya sorry not directed at you but to clarify I meant is selling at a rapid speed a la the wii (not the units sold over its lifetime) Could be wrong but the Switch is doing much better than expected imo and support won’t be going anywhere
