Motorcycle cops seem like an obsolete holdover. Make a traffic stop or run a plate that hits on a stolen car, they may make a stop but then what? Wait for a car to arrive to put the perp in? Sure as heck shouldn't commit to a chase on a motorcycle given how recklessly dangerous pursuits are.

In the town I live in motors are 100% traffic cops and the biggest dick bags. Where I worked they mostly patrolled the walking mall and broke up fights and arrested maybe like 2 people a year. The ones where I live ride little crotch rockets. The ones where I worked ride Harleys.

A woman attempted suicide today by shooting herself in the cheek like ed norton in fight club. When that didn’t work she drove up to the top of a bridge and jumped off about 160 feet into the Mississippi River. Then she swam to the nearest tug boat & they just brought her to shore like it was no big deal.

We get suicides jump off this bridge all the time and usually the fall kills them, but occasionally some do survive that only to drown in the truly outrageous current of the Mississippi. I can appreciate that at that point she just gave up and said gently caress it, and swam to safety. My favorite was a fella who shot himself in the head three times. First one missed Second one skimmed around skull and just left a superficial curved track across his head Third one was a misloaded round (.25 in a .22 or something retarded like that) which fired but got stuck in the barrel, poking him in the temple but did nothing Poor guy too incompetent to even kill himself.

That's what it looked like for a few of them in The Bridge. Its a doc where the filmmaker set up a camera to record a popular jump off spot on The Golden Gate Bridge. I remember watching this one guy who seemed to be in a argument on the phone. He hung up, took of his baseball cap, set it down, put his sunglasses in the hat along with his phone and then just climbed up on the railing and jumped cartwheeling his arms all the way down. I bet most of them regret jumping when they drown since the jump doesn't usually kill them outright.

My brother saw a guy jump out of a tenth floor window. He broke all kinds of bones, but survived in large part due to not clearing a balcony, and thus landing on soft-ish tar roofing rather than concrete. He had a similar feeling of instantaneous regret and realizing that jumping out of a window for failing a college class was a bad idea and did some outreach/awareness for suicidal ideation treatment and stress management after he had some recovery time.

There’s a guy in my town who very obviously sustained some sort of facial trauma- my deputy buddy responded a few years back to a 911 complaint from a neighbor who heard muffled screaming from an apt in his complex. Dude put a .308 under his chin and canoed his lower face, up to his nose. Survived, never lost consciousness, then began “yelling” for help. Friend said is sound like somebody yelling “helmphhhh” through a wet blanket... I’m sure that dude has some regrets.
