ROFL Octopus posted:I’m a retard so can someone explain in small words the limits of pardons? Basically, the President can forgive people for federal crimes (except impeachment because duh). However, it does not apply to state crimes. For example, the President can pardon someone guilty of contempt in federal court, but not state court.

I thought it'd be more like "good things that the trump administration has done by accident" rather than dunking on trump. I mean this thread is for hmboling about it and isn't that essentially the same thing? I dunno I don't wanna be a negative Nancy about it

I'm looking forward to a porn star describe how tiny Trump's dick is, and for the president of the united states to go on twitter and screamin, no I have a really big dick. That's a thing that is going to happen in 2018 America. Black Mirror/Veep is going to look really conservative and milquetoast in a few years.

This new thread is more about celebrating when the idiocy actually hurts them in some way. Don Gato posted:You see, the founding fathers assumed we would only elect honest, incorruptible and smart people as president and the entire constitution was based on that assumption. The system breaks down when you have someone like Nixon in office, and completely falls to poo poo when Trump is having a tantrum And to be completely fair, it didn't take much for it to break down. John Adams and Congress managed to make it illegal to criticize government officials, with the exception of the Vice President (who was the runner up in the Presidential election). The Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798 are pretty similar to what Trump and his chudmates want to get passed (make it harder for immigrants to naturalize, kick out "dangerous" aliens, and make it illegal to criticize the government). Fun fact, it came up before Marbury v. Madison, so they were never appealed to SCOTUS for judicial review. Most people assume it would be unconstitutional if tried today, but most people assumed someone like Trump wouldn't be President. Another fun fact, Jefferson's and Madison's response to the act brought up the idea of state nullification and secession, which helped give birth to the theory the confederate states used to justify secession. The Founding Fathers were smart people, but they aren't the infallible philosopher kings that most basic history classes portray them as. They made some pretty dumb, petty, and awful decisions.
