Also, I couldn't pronounce some of the spices like 'curry powder' or 'salt' when I went to the grocery store, so I just used my favorite canned chili instead. It already has spices in it so one less step for me lol!"

Cooking steak. I like my steak on the done side of medium, but regardless of all the variables (thickness, time, whatever), I always get the cooking time wrong, and I wind up undercooking it, basically on the other side of done. Every time.

The only saving grace in this pet peeve is that my partner loves it at that level of doneness. So when I'm handling the steaks, I'm basically a culinary God. So hers is inevitably great, and I always have to settle for nuking my piece for 30sec.

Late edit for additional peeves: people who complain about video game women wearing heels. I get it, heels are implausible for 95% of whatever the woman is doing. Yes, they reinforce some outdated gender assumptions. But it's just a goddamned foot, there's good odds that the modelers aren't going to model the character differently if they were in flats anyway. There's plenty more groady stuff about women characters in video games than their footwear.

Are there people who are just complaining about the shoes though? I've never heard that complaint by itself, only as part of the more general complaints about the way female characters in games tend to be designed. Like, no one's going "love the chainmail bikini, but the heels are a step too far!"

I've seen it a bunch where it is the primary thing, but it's even worse when it's (pun unintended) a footnote. You've listed off the regular things people kvetch about cheesecakey stuff, OK, and then end it with the character in heels? It's a goddamned shoe.

I don't get what your problem is then. You just don't think anyone should ever mention shoes as part of any kind of criticism of video games, even if the criticism is entirely about the appearance and presentation of the characters?

I... really don't see why you have an issue with that complaint? I mean, sperglord dudes constantly complain about dumb poo poo like guns being slightly historically incorrect. Female characters wearing impractical and unnecessary heels can be hugely distracting to people who have actually worn heels in the past, and 99% of the time the ONLY reason to put the character in heels is for sex appeal. It's an annoying and all-too-common trope that can easily be pointed to as evidence that a character is overly sexualized in general. Like, I get that this is the pet peeve thread and you can be annoyed by whatever you want, but that seems like a bizarrely specific issue to bring up.

My pet peeve for today: people shouting questions at store employees who are in the middle of helping someone else. Today I was asking an employee a question and this dude walked up behind her and IN THE MIDDLE OF MY SENTENCE practically yelled "where's the peanut butter??" like drat dude calm the gently caress down and wait your turn. Or when you're trying to check out and someone comes up and asks them to find out if they have a product in stock. Why don't these people loving wait a second, or find an employee who's not in the middle of something?

Can we go back to the fact that mister bibs microwaves his steak instead of just putting it back on the grill/in the oven?

My step dad has the same "problem" except that he "can't help" overcook them to hell. Every time I'm like "you know how you always cook them for 5 minutes a side (or whatever he does)? just do it for less time than that" and it's like I'm telling him to invent calculus or something. At least use a thermometer or try and get used to the feel of a properly done steak instead of throwing up your hands saying there's nothing to be done.

I pan fry my steaks; the nuking is just to get the aforementioned last bit of doneness I like that I cannot, under any goddamn permutation no matter how much I try, manage to successfully attain when doing it. Like I said, I always get it wrong, and I'm pretty sure teaching me calculus (and I'm talking advanced stuff) would be easier than managing to figure out why the hell this piece of meat isn't done the way I like for the umpeenth time.

Trust me, I'd love to finally get it right, but until then, I'll be walking to the microwave while the Incredible Hunk piano theme plays. :(

You're a good candidate for a sous vide machine. Set the temperature you want and then just leave the steak there overnight or before you leave for work. Then you can just take it out and sear the outside before eating it.

I'm getting the sense that there's something specific about the texture of microwaved steak that he's going for, not a specific temperature since apparently getting it "right" by leaving it on a pan longer is for some reason not an option. But whatever, it's hardly the most weird habit misterbibs has posted about, just a little unappetizing.

e: vvv
Yes but when I asked why you didn't just put it back in the pan when you noticed it wasn't done enough you seemed to act like that wasn't an option and the microwave was essential.

pet peeve: people who are absurdly picky about steak done-ness, whether you insist on blue rare or charcoal, or in this case "on the done side of medium".

Heels make the rear end pop, and they're supremely impractical for any sort of situation your typical video game character finds herself in. When people bitch about high heels, it's another layer of bitching about impractical character design that is only done to titillate the presumably straight male audience that comprises the majority of game players. The video game character didn't dress herself.

If the heels aren't for sex appeal, what the gently caress do you think they're for? If they're so meaningless, why are they there? If it's an "unarguable non-issue" then why wouldn't game designers see the criticism and go "oh, OK, we won't do that any more since literally nobody cares about it anyway"?

Eh, the whole point is textually in-movie and by the actor's own words, she's not a flat-wearing person and she sure as poo poo isn't taking off her shoes in the jungle. As those disagreeing with me have proved here, there's really nothing backing the "heels as thing to be upset about" argument.

They know it, the rest of the world who doesn't give a poo poo knows it, and bringing it up with video game models won't be changing that scale any time soon. So all it winds up being something to be annoyed when someone brings up it up as an issue. Which is impossible, since, ya know, video game character footwear and all that.

While writing that random gibberish, you could've reread my posts where I pointed out that there are legitimate things in the vein of overly sexualized video game characters (of which footwear is inherently and implicitly not included, since it's footwear), and that while those have merit, bringing up the footwear is not, and no matter how much someone might want it to even warrant bringing it up, it's still footwear in a video game characters, so it doesn't warrant being brought up.

Its not rocket science. There are folks, as this inexplicable detail attests, that don't realize video game characters footwear discussion inherently has a laugh track sound playing after it. It's a pet peeve of mine.
