I have no idea how common it was in other places, but when I was in primary school one of the required activities for kids in roughly the 7 to 10 range was knitting. Talking to my mother about it years later it was apparently to help develop motor skills, hand/eye coordination and the like and it appears to have been dropped since I don't hear any of my nieces and nephews (some of whom are in the same school) talking about it, but it was a fad for a while throughout much of Ireland from what I can gather. I never made anything as large as a kilt, but I do recall making headbands, scarves and simple things like that.

I can't recall having any sort of home ec class when I was in school.

Needle- and woodworking is still common and required classes in elementary/middle school over here.

Eh, on Northeast México back in the early-to-mid 90's it basically guaranteed that most of my elementary school classmates called me "maricón" (sorta like a combination of "pussy" and "human being", I guess? And called me that they did, with gusto), but I never gave two shits because guess what?
  • If you get good enough, people buy the stuff that you make/repair, and for a broke-rear end kid/teenager, that matters a ton.
  • Learning how to do "girl stuff" early usually means that girls want to talk to you, and learning how to be on the same level with women? Helps a shitload when you enter into a relationship with one.
  • You save money when you need to patch stuff up. Having a sewing machine, to me, is almost as important as a fridge or a laundry machine.
Plus, I made this sweet woolie/knit cap!

i assume all toy tie-in/kid show simulcasts are only obtained because they're forced on CR/Sentai when they're trying to license actual in demand titles. truly a sad state we live in, but i guess i understand given the translator situation

Yeah I get it too, but it really messes up my usual plan of watching literally any anime with a giant robot in it.

edit: watched the first two episodes of the robot train anime, and it was fun. Feels like a modern version of a Brave Series show. If you like shows where uniformed bureaucrats yell things for the hero robot to do, and then the pilot of the hero robot yells while he does those things, and also the hero robot itself yells, give Shinkalion a shot.

Mitsuboshi Colors and probably Hakumei to Mikochi, but I haven't watched it yet. Also Violet Evergarden, but I'm still undecided on whether or not it's actually good or just very pretty.

this is off in the horizon but this summer season a Kinema Citrus anime called Revue Starlight is airing. It's part of a Bushiroad franchise alongside a stage musical that's doing really well or so i hear. i'm too lazy to explain the plot right now but its googleable and the cast bios are here if anyone wants to see.

the PVs look ridiculously good and at least half the cast is dorky and gay (a reserved estimate considering this is Bushiroad—its probably all of them) so check it out if you want

Episodes 3 of Antarctica and 2 of Violet were good! I might have to pair them up from now on, the contrast of Antarctica's really wonderful slapstick and ridiculous va-work and Violet's really quite dry office/post-war drama thing?

I live here now, this is my home

The fashion of the main characters is really nice and I hope that they vary it up at times and don't do the cartoon 'one outfit everyday' thing. The blonde delivery guy's boots are outstanding

I watched the first episode of Mitsuboshi Colors. It made me want a gumball.

Also, I liked how Pops was wearing a different set of novelty glasses in every shot.
