A truck carrying 6 million bees rolled and ended up on its roof in Australia and the emergency crews had to continually fight off enraged bees during the 12 hour rescue/clean up operation. quote:Ignoring the pain, the crew worked quickly to remove the young man who was trapped inside. See, people piss and moan about transporting spent nuclear fuel rods on a train through [your state here] yet there's no regulations about not storing 6 million bees in a crash proof container. Priorities, people!

Former DILF posted:some questioned the wisdom of putting millions of angry bees on a truck, but so far there has been no response from whatever sweaty drunken reprobate is in charge of the angry bee company That's just how bees work in modern farming. They're moved around from location to location to pollinate the plants that are currently blooming. Every year around 30 Billion bees are trucked to California to pollinate the almond trees. You can't just leave them there because the food source gets used up and the bees die, so they get trucked to their next food source. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/migratory-beekeeping-mind-boggling-math/

Just OSHA-related enough to warrant- It's not just the lack of blooms in agricultural fields that requires the movement of honey bees, many of these fields are doused in insecticides, fungicides, and/or herbicides immediately after blooming is over. These can make their way into honey and damage human consumers as well as the bees themselves. A recently published study actually suggests that bees are attracted to the smell of fungicides, which they bring back to the hive in nectar. These fungicides also amplify the neurological and bodily harm other pesticides such as neonicitinoids do to bees. It's largely a product of monstrous, unsustainable monocultures but if you don't move the bees the hives and any products they produce will be incredibly poisoned. Honey bees are the lucky ones- there are thousands of native pollinators that don't have the luxury of being moved, and are subject to these death fields year after year!

Priorities, people! Bees are transported by truck in the US. Many western states have ports of entry on the Interstate highways where trucks stop and show paperwork concerning their load. Trucks containing livestock always have to stop for a longer inspection, and that includes bee trucks. What I'm saying is that every so often there will be a cloud of bees at truck inspection sites and the only thing truckers can do is hope for the best. One time a bee stowed away in my cab and stung me the next day.
