personally the only strip I really loathe is frog applause. It tries SO HARD to be hip and clever and relevant and it's just random nonsense. It's a graphical shitpost.

It's bizarre how many people who like newspaper comics seem incapable of see what's good and what isn't.

I don't mean this in a "this thread has better taste than everyone else :smug:" way. When you look at the comments of clearly unfunny poo poo like Nancy or Working Daze, stuff where you actually couldn't point out a joke to someone else, you get people fawning all over it. Meanwhile, there were a ton of people who vocally hated when Judge Parker stopped being about rich white people being handed even more stuff.

I just don't get it.

I don't know. This is a really sharp right turn, and it doesn't seem timed to anything IRL. Piraro likes to descend into :smug: but this is way more consistent.

I won't claim I'm keeping dedicated track of Pros and Cons or anything (thought I DO remember back to when it was called 'A Doctor, a Lawyer, and a Cop') but I feel safe enough saying these sorts of attitudes were more or less part of the strip's DNA from the start, albeit a bit more quietly. When you boil down the three main characters they're 'sleazeball lawyer that helps irredeemable, unrepentant, 100% guilty crooks get back on the streets for cash', 'psychologist that puts up with whiny peoples' stupid, imaginary, self-absorbed problems that they just need to shut up and get over' and 'grumpy ol' cynical cop whose flaw is that he SPEAKS THE HARSH TRUTH when it's impolite or rude to the loving worthless durdling shits around him.'

Yeah, I just feel different about problematic undercurrents that I can ignore because the strip is good than overt Tinsleyism without decent jokes.
