Good. Don’t miss it. That’s like, the hardest part. Go in with a plan and you’ll start a lot quicker. Also don’t forget you probably need a new laptop. You know, because you have to type a lot of stuff.

I went for a printer. Had a shitton of drafts and papers to write so was definitely needed. Plus my school charges every time you print.

Oh poo poo I might ask for that now. I legit need a printer and mine does the same.

There's two forms: 29-1905m and 21-4138. One for items and receipts and the other for a blurb which explains why you need the items. Once I was able to extract this process and info from the Voc Rehab gatekeeper it went quite well. I purchased mine ahead of time and was reimbursed, which was initially sketchy but all went well.

Mostly I got it to avoid the annoyance of putting funds on my school ID to just pay it right back for over prices prints.

Get a Brother laser ( HL-2270dw here) and never worry about ink cartridges again. Most are wireless so you can toss it anywhere. It doesn't do color but how often do you need that? Then I got someone's used lovely Canon for the few times I need to scan stuff or print color. CamScanner on the phone takes care of 99% of my scanning needs now.

If you have an opportunity to attend an Ivy, do so. A lot more doors will be open with an Ivy on your resume.

Without 100% GI Bill, you don't qualify for Yellow Ribbon, so anything beyond the tuition cap is out of pocket. Columbia definitely exceeds the tuition cap.

I thought some chick at the vets office here on campus had some hope for me, but no i got sealawyered. At this time i get no GI bill (General discharge); I do qualify for vocrehab. I have a 3.74 I can pull up to a 3.9 if I have a perfect performance the rest of my 2 years. Which is probably how long its gonna take the NDRB to give me an appointment for a personal hearing for me to, most likely, walk out of there with a new DD-214 with an honorable on it. At this point, I'd love to do it; I'm probably gonna have to do gay porn in dress blues to afford it.

I got your PM and will reply soon; I’ve been working this weekend. Columbia is good poo poo but it’s not an exception to a rule that the university recruiters and admin are criminal in downplaying: you have to know what you want to do before you come here, and plan your time out. Your career starts as soon as you get the acceptance letter. It’s not about staying in the library til 11pm every night - but there are vital things (internships, coursework, etc) that “I went to Columbia” simply wont substitute for. A lot of vets at the school are under the illusion their diploma will do all of the selling needed to get a good job. Nope.

Not necessarily. If you gently caress off for four years at an ivy because you expect the private sector to suck your dick as hard as a bunch of faculty and administrators, you might have been better off at a humbler school that allowed for fewer illusions.

To be fair this is also an NYC issue. Many come to school here and decide they like the lifestyle and want to stay. Entry level white collar jobs with growth potential are hard to come by here, so it can be a brutal transition. For people who have something else lined up, or want to go into specific fields*, it’s probably not so bad. *STEM

Heya, fuckers. I've got a friend in the Navy who's coming real close up on the end of her tour, and is looking forward to going to school on the GI Bill. The problem is, her preseparation class isn't telling her what she needs to know. So I figured I'd come ask people who've been through that already. Assuming I am intelligent but uninformed and a few months from separation, what do I need to know about "how school works with the GI Bill"?
