I kind of get the logic in both cases, but there are loads of confounding factors that make it not at all a clear-cut case. It’s like a ritual people do to convince themselves they’re good and would never make a mistake, which is a serious misunderstanding of what mistakes are.

See I feel like freedom from the tyranny of deterministic categories is one of the goals of socialism and get weirded out by the enthusiasm for narrow labels that serially define every dimension of erotic and sensual existence, because that really seems like an internalization of market logic as identity. But I’m a monogamous straight and don’t know what it’s like to be pushed to the boundaries so Like I get that it’s important to broadcast whether or not you like trans people because they have a much higher than average chance of being killed, but rigid thinking about identity has kind of a bad history as far as people being institutionalized and killed goes.

There's something to be said for how what passed for American left of centre hadn't been doing anything to appeal to young people outside certain bourgie bubbles, especially as they end up going backwards on sexual and racial issues at the slightest hint of pressure, but we have socialists for that now. Have they even had any new alt-right figures of significance popping up that aren't because of being arrested for horrible crimes? It seems like it's the same handful of names that end up popping up in desperate self-owning bids for attention on a weekly basis now.
