Hey, separate posters expressed all of the sentiments I listed: that Meehan is alt-right, expressing problematic ideas, and that his brain must have broken. I wasn't addressing your comment directly as indicated by the fact I didn't quote it and referenced multiple posts.

I don't know how much Meehan keeps up with news regarding US colleges or if Scottish/UK universities are experiencing similar movements but his shift in subject matter could simply be a reaction to recent abject nutbaggery taking place on many university campuses and not his brain breaking.

1) Where on Earth does Dustin live that a temp agency hooks him up with a substitute teaching job? Also, I know it's not the kind of strip that has any interest in seeing its titular character flourish and succeed, but I think a better writer would recognize this pattern of Dustin having a knack for connecting with kids and just shift it to being a comic about him as a young teacher. It could still do the dumb millenial jokes and hey, it isn't like first-year k-12 teachers make a ton of money so he could even still live with his awful parents.
I'm assuming that you need a teaching degree to be a teacher in America? So Dustin would first have to go back to school. And he could work part time in childcare. Or to put it another way, he could be Luann.

All right, this is a good example. Here Holbrook is attempting to do his racism metaphor with school integration. To a white middle class generation xer (I'm assuming that's how old he is) who only knows about school integration vaguely from history class, this is rational. But right out the gate, he's making stupid assumptions- like how schools for minority students are impractical because they represent a smaller portion of the population. Schools can be whatever size. We used to have schools in tiny buildings that could only fit a dozen people at a time, for communities in the middle of nowhere with no schools. Even today there are small home schools and charter schools. So why is Holbrook making the idea of running a small school out to be such a Heraclean task?

Because in the mind of the well-meaning white liberal, segregated schools have to be an accident. Black people were not forced into squalid horrible buildings as a means of social control by a tyrannical white majority. Certainly not! Racism may have been de jour, but those poor deluded white people simply thought based on the incorrect information they had access to that black people and white people were too different to be able to learn together, which we in the enlightened modern day understand to obviously be incorrect.

Suffice to say, this was not what happened. Brown V. Board of Education explicitly decided that separate was inherently unequal. This was not a matter of great moral principle. If racist rear end in a top hat post-Reconstruction white people had actually wanted to give black people access to equal schools, they could have done so and averted the end of segregation. The reason they did not was because the explicit and actual purpose of segregation was solely to force Black people into using substandard facilities, which the court correctly recognized.

But Holbrook, the white liberal, cannot acknowledge the prospect that his ancestors were simply malicious assholes. They must have been nice, somehow. So he concocts this fantasy situation where segregation is simply a matter of tradition based on outmoded beliefs which intolerant characters will inevitably be taught is wrong. Of course the analogy is hosed from the beginning since unlike black and white people predators and prey presumably have to learn completely different life skills. But whatever I'm done with this dumb dissertation gimmick for today. Back to my more coherent gimmick, Korean comics.
