I chased down an Azmodan and a Sgt Hammer tonight as Murky like some kind of terrifying fish demon. The sgt hammer made the mistake of trying to turn around and help the Azmodan. I SENT THEM TO HELL WHERE MURKY WAS BIRTHED. ilu murk

Probably gonna hop back into this dead gay game with friends after spending about a year away; Anything new happen with my main-man Tychus? Any new playstyles besides "pick minigun perks and shoot the biggest enemy health bar until a genji crushes your face in a half-second?" Also the new fire-guy seems neat; what's the consensus on him?

Tychus is pretty meh. He was really strong for a while when his range got buffed to regular range but now it's nerfed again. He did see some pro play last weekend though.

Blaze is pretty good as a second tank, especially vs multiple melee. He has ridiculous regen, decent AoE and slows everyone around him as they burn.

So there's a decent chance that players will yell at me for choosing him over more optimal assassins? I wouldn't have it any other way.

Tychus has the biggest dick of any character in HOTS which is something no balance patch can take away from him.

Even Cho'Gall can't stack up. 2 Ogres? Not enough dick.

I think Tychus is good and fun and he's not Malthael which makes him about 3000% more viable imo since he has fun and doesn't just wank off to death.

Yeah you should be able to win a duel just autoing him and holding Q down with Die Alone. If you're having trouble, just fight him minion waves for the heal.

I wish I knew what my friend and I were doing wrong when we went 1-10 with him. The only time we won was when we lucked into having an Auriel on our team who followed us around. Is he actually only good with the right healer?

When one meatsack holds two heroes worth of health, yes, they need healing. :v: Auriel is particularly good with CG because she gets two heroes worth of heal buildup with only one halo, so her heals should only be limited by CD.

I mean I'm no expert but I don't think he needs to be pocketed. He has all sorts of stuff at his disposal which gives him an array of long range poke, armor/self-healing, a dash, he hits like a truck, he has an enormous amount of hitpoints, all of which means he can beat the poo poo out of people and peace out where other individual heroes would risk overcommitting and dying, then he hits the fountain or hearths and he can do it all over again. If he has a healer then he can do all that even more once teamfights start in earnest, and you have the unenviable task of trying to get kills on whoever isn't Chogall while Chogall is throwing bombs and blobs and shadow darts and whatever else at you.

Not one tricking him anymore, but still playing him from time to time. Seems a solid mage/auto attacker hybrid, but no longer auto pick for a ranged dps slot.

Infernal Shrines, my first actual win of the evening, which we repeatedly did our best to throw at multiple intervals despite that. Our Kael'thas, who to his credit got his Convection quest done without dying by the 3:00 mark, got cocky and would do things like solo kill a keep right before the objective popped and get ganked or going for an enemy merc camp rather than the one at the bottom of the map first. In the end it came down to a wholly unnecessary pitched battle on the final objective to seal what could have been a much easier deal, but this time KT focused on chunking skeleton dudes and we escorted the arcane punisher to the core for the final victory.

While this game definitely had some funny moments, such as Diablo flipping a self-destructing mech in such a way that he wound up bodyblocking himself against it, me, and the wall, I have to admit that this final stats screen is kind of indicative of my D.Va play at the moment for good and for ill. I have a whole lot of deaths, and yeah, some of those are mechs, it's hard to avoid that, but a fair number weren't. I also have higher damage taken than our main tank which I'm not looking at as a good sign since D.Va isn't really supposed to be main tank material. What this is telling me is that I'm playing fights too close in front. In fights I'm trying to do things that seem sensible, like shining defense matrix on high damage heroes and bumping melee people away from vulnerable squishies but more often than not it seems like I wind up throwing my life away and so I'm wondering if maybe there's another approach I should be taking.

Out of teamfights she seems reasonably obvious, her waveclear is on the decent side, Rushdown gives her solid map presence, so I spend a lot of downtime rotating to soak unsoaked lanes, assisting people taking merc camps, and attempting to quickly set up for objectives. Once the actual fight breaks out though her mech is on the fragile side and trades poorly, and until you can snag Nanoweave Suit or Torpedo Dash getting demeched is usually (though not always) a death sentence for me. Any advice?

That's awesome. Auriel used to have a pretty cool combo that allowed you to do this solo. If you took Q CDR at 1 and W CDR at 4 (or maybe 7, can't remember) you could Q 2 people repeatedly and get massive energy, coupled with the 2 seconds CD on W you could sustain like crazy. Worked very well vs melee teams/misha/samuro & nova clones ... I remember a clip of Auriel mowing down 3 or 4 dudes solo in a WTF episode.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTxT1trChEM&t=718s

Blizzard decided this was too much for this oppressive character to have and simply :fuckoff: the W talent without any replacement. (but hey, there is always hope!)

Chogall feels so bad to play against in QM. He really demands counters and if they also queue with a Chogall friendly healer it can seem impossible to fight into them. You really have to generate a commanding lead before they get 16 to have a chance. I'd like to see the unstoppable talent they get at 16 toned down somehow, it really feels like Chogall becomes oppressive at that point.

Filthy Monkey
Jun 25, 2007

You are right that 16 is really the tipping point for Cho'gall. If you are fighting on even terms up to that point, you are losing. He requires either direct counters, or early decisive action to beat. Playing passively is death.

He isn't unbeatable. I won a game against Cho'Gall the other day on Volskaya actually. We didn't have any counters, and I think the levels were both around 18ish? The enemy team would pretty reliably win any teamfight.
We had lost the first couple of Triglav protectors.

You know what we did? While they were on the top control point, we ignored them and rushed their core through the middle. They did get the idea and come back, but by then we were able to finish it off. Don't play passively. Make bold moves that require the enemy team to respond, and take advantage of the fact that Cho'gall can only be in one place at one time.

I am still pretty new at this game compared to most people, but I found my biggest early issue to overcome was trying to play it too safe. Not committing to fights (particularly as a tank), not making potentially risky plays, and so on. If you are ahead, playing it safe makes sense. Ride your advantage to victory. If you are behind, risky plays can be the right move. Try sneakily taking that boss. Try rushing their core. Will it fail? Maybe. It could turn things around though. It is certainly better than passively riding the train to loss town.
