Hellsau posted:Depends on the buildings. The apartments in Pecado between the arena and the casino are just a nightmare because the sounds come from everywhere for some reason, so a player walking around on the second floor sounds like they're on the roof above you. Hah, yeah those are actually the buildings that sparked my question. Most other places I feel like I can generally figure it out from other context clues. Glad I'm not alone.

Athanatos posted:Play however makes the game enjoyable for yourself and gently caress anyone who tries to tell you otherwise. Gonna empty quote this because it's the most true thing here. If dropping in the middle of that place that has 30 people drop every round and leads to a horrifying melee is fun to you then do that poo poo every single round you maniac. If that was no fun whatsoever you wouldn't have people dogpiling the same places every single round. Matazat posted:My general strategy is to avoid fighting people who know where I am and I've had a lot of success with it in solo, duos, and squads. If someone shoots at you don't just peak back around the corner you ran behind, quickly and quietly move somewhere else where they won't be looking and then pop them. The natural human tendency is to poke up and see what's going on. This is exactly the wrong thing to do; this is why the Secret Service is trained to basically grab the president by the face and stuff him quickly into a car when poo poo goes down. Fight your natural instinct to see where the guy is. If he is shooting you and you don't know where he is you are at a massive disadvantage. He just watched where you ran to and is probably aiming at it. You don't know where he is. That's a good way to get your head shot off. First priority is hide, get cover, and get safe.

https://streamable.com/6m55d I crashed out while in the plane so I ended up in the rear end end of the map; on my way in I found a crate with a Groza in it. Groza is amazing, but even more so when the game doesn't have you marked as a teammate for your team after the crash.

Hi, I'm that guy in the 3rd/4th circle who hosed up their positioning and had no chance to reach the circle in time, so I just shot you in the back to bring you down with me. What's up?

If you think about it, they also hosed up by being in a position where you could shoot them in the back. I think you are doing good work, please continue to teach positioning in the best possible way.

This hits so freaking close to home. Together with getting into a pissing contest with people too far away and getting flanked while doing it, is probably some of our biggest problems. It's just the hit of getting a sweet rear end long range 1HKO is too good and happens just enough for us too keep chasing that high.

I had a game yesterday where I utterly misjudged timing for the 4th circle and spent probably about 5 minutes in the blue zone trying to catch up (a new circle spawned and contracted in that time) 3 med kits and a few health kits later I'm almost there and I've seen a guy in the distance for the last mile carefully keeping just ahead of the circle so noone can sneak up on him behind. He probably deserves to be quite salty about being kar98'd in the back of the head after 5 minutes by some dickhead that can't handle circles

Arkangelus posted:Is there an easy way to distinguish whether footsteps are above or below you? For whatever reason its the one thing I have trouble with. Just based on pitch or..? Going against the consensus here: I think when a player is indoors and above you, their footsteps sound "bassier", ie the high frequencies are filtered out and a little booming resonance is added to simulate them walking "on your ceiling". I could be wrong though, maybe this effect is added even when they're below you. Anyone with evidence? As soon as they step outside, the sound is crisp and full of treble again so that's a useful tell at least. For realism, I think footstep sounds overall should travel somewhat shorter distances, and particularly not through two floors of an apartment complex. I'm not sure if that change would really be a good idea gameplay-wise though. Window glass could stand to be a little more soundproof, plus it would be cool if when I break a window, more sound travels through. The two-stories on Erangel where there's a door in the kitchen, then a door in the entryway that branches to a small hallway with a bathroom, a bedroom and a wooden staircase leading upstairs to a second floor that's a small hallway with a door on the right and a doorway without a door on the left at the end? Those houses you can absolutely tell which floor someone's creeping around on from their footsteps. There isn't much consistency among all the different pre-bought buildings in this game for that to be a reliable indicator unless you've experienced each building type before.

what is it with fpp solos and 3/4s of the server being dead by the 2nd or 3rd circle?

FPP is innately more dangerous and most of the plane drops at a few major hotspots.
