I really like Pat's continued use of "slice the pie" in the new game ogre episode, when it's just one person entering a room. ninja edit: i guess it can be a one person thing, but I've always thought it referred to teams of people

Polygon is doing a big stream day on youtube. Pat and Simone did Monster Hunter earlier, and said there'll be a Pat/Griffin/Chelsea/You??? multiplayer stream tomorrow. Simone ate a banana and it was the worst thing I've ever seen or heard. Next up seems to be Griffin, Justin and Russ streaming Sea of Thieves in a few minutes, and there's apparently two more streams later today, including The Polygon Show probably.

Goddamn I have not been as frustrated as I am watching Russ play a loving video game in a looooong time. He can't use his loving eyes. He might literally be blind. I don't understand how he doesn't understand basic loving systems. Hey Russ, you piece of poo poo, a rudder works like a car. You turn it a little bit, get your heading correct, and then straighten it back out. You don't keep jamming the wheel left and right and left and right like mickey loving mouse you incompetent moron.

But loving hell he's SO BAD at video games. And he doesn't understand that he's bad. I’m not quite as passionate about it but I don’t disagree with the facts. For someone who’s profession is video games, he doesn’t seem very good at them, and not in a “my comedy gimmick is being bad at games” way I don’t care too much but it’s puzzling

He's good at games that he practices. He has the ability to be good at games. But his ability to learn a game is like watching a toddler trying to ride a bike. He seems completely clueless and unable to learn, and he just shuts down and stops making rational decisions in favor of blind thoughtless panic and 'doing things for the sake of doing things'. He loses any semblance of intelligence and turns into an ape-like creature mashing buttons.

Russ is pretty good at a very particular type of game, which is 2D platformers. He's been mediocre or worse at basically everything else. Like, he's already bad at the games, but then also hams it up to 11. Sometimes this leads to watching him stare at a toilet while his teammates are slaughtered off-screen, but sometimes this also results in him causing a complete party wipe by driving into a bale of hay for fun. Overall, I like Russ, but I can understand why people might be put off by him. At the very least, he adds more than he detracts overall, and the rest of the staff seem to like him well enough. I give Russ Frushtick a 7.5 out of 10, for a rating of "Above average". Thanks for tuning in, and be sure to like share and subscribe.

I'm fine with having a wildcard in the group like Russ. It can be really funny. But knowing there are three competent players doing something cool, I don't want to be stuck looking at a game through the viewpoint of the idiot wildcard being a loving idiot. Literally anybody streaming would be better than Russ. Why do they insist that he is the best person to stream everything? He shows absolutely no talent for video games or recording video games. Does his uncle work for nintendo?

I dunno if you guys are trying to rewrite history or something, but I distinctly remember that the last time someone other than Russ streamed, the whole stream was inflicted with a terrible curse. I'm not about to open myself up to that for nothing.

Griffin is a big butthead during awful squad though. Half of the fun I've had in the streams is watching Russ nearly cause a complete meltdown in Griff. Intentional? Maybe. Hilarious? To me, yes.

It's hard to tell how much of that disaster was Russ getting lost and fumbling with a new game and navigating in a new 3d environment, and how much was how (deliberately?) baffling and user-unfriendly Sea of Thieves seems to be. His work on Awful Squad's improved a lot since the beginning, to the point where he's in the right place looking in the right direction more often than not, so it's clear that he can get it together with enough practice. It's just a long road to get to that point, and I don't think SoT is the kind of game that's interested in making any of that easier. Anyway, the truth is that the best Polygon game stream is a laid-back show with Pat and Allegra or Simone or Old Brian, playing something low-key and just chatting to each other about it, or breakfast, or whatever. The second best would probably be Simone and Ashley yelling at Overwatch, if they ever got some goddamned soundproofing for the lounge.

One of my favorite Polygon videos is still the Spelunky one where Russ is trying to teach her how to play it well, and none of it is sticking, and she's just laughing at how almost indescribably bad she is at the game. Her breakdown at the very end brings me so much joy that I'll actually bring it up on days when I'm feeling down and it'll get me out of whatever funk I've put myself in. Simone is magical.
