univbee posted:Monster Hunter is effectively a genre unto itself so calling it like Diablo isn't really that accurate. You're put into a zone and have to track down and hunt a giant monster, which is an involved ARPG boss battle and will involve things like the monster fleeing to heal and you having to track it down. So it involves progressively harder and more involved battles and you getting better gear and all that stuff. And most of what you do is really "hunting", you'll do stuff like set traps and follow footprints and the like. Like, imagine if Witcher 3 was specifically designed for involved boss battles with 3 other players, and simulating hunting for sport/meat in a fantasy world and that being all you did in the game. Bolded part is what I assumed, but fighting monsters was far from my favourite part of Witcher 3. Also not a big fan of loot games. I almost certainly won't like MHW, but I want to try it. God drat you Blockbuster, why'd you have to die?!? I gotta say MHW looks stupid when you're up close and the monsters keep clipping through the player(s), but bow and arrow Aloy-style looks more fun.

I played Monster Hunter World beta and was bored as rather quickly and it ran like garbage on every PS4 Pro setting in one way or another. I'd imagine its a similar experience on Xbox One X because lets be real its not really that much better and devs are lazy.

I’m optimistic about sea of thieves after playing the beta. Def need more in depth quests or it’s gonna get destroyed in reviews but alpha players are saying there’s even content from alpha that isn’t in the closed beta.. so there is stuff being held back for main release. It’s totally a game to chill in.. sandboxy... if you like being on a ship with ur pals taking in the sunset it’s a game for you. If you need clear plot linearization and cutscenes or what have you look else where. The most fun we had was probably locking a guy who beached our shop in the brig and throwing water buckets in his face

And buying costs $80 after tax now at cheapest since Amazon lowered their preorder discount to 10%. It was reported that Blockbuster near me was doing just fine but the whole Canadian operation was sacrificed to keep the American stores going for a few more years. Edit: and of course Blockbuster killed off all the local video rental places except one, and they don't do video games. Edit 2: annnd the only Gamefly equivalent takes about a month to ship games to the west coast, so it's both useless and a lovely deal. Basically, Canada sucks. I have a real affinity for Split/Second. It's a racing game that presses all the right buttons for me. I also really like the whole TV episode feel to the game with it's "next time on..." and "in this episode..." bits. This is why I've also legit enjoyed playing the games Phantasy Star Universe and Quantum Break. I'll show myself out

Can confirm that Monster Hunter looks like trash on the X. Not sure how they get away with calling it enhanced, it looks like a 360 game with awful textures on everything but the monsters. Even the HDR is bad. And of course it is extremely not my poo poo in general, as predicted.

Is monster hunter a game that a person who’s never played the series would be in to? I’ve watched a bit of it and it seems to be in a world of its own. A few things stand out that make me hesitate to try it. There are a ton of menus and a lot of things to learn, the clipping of the monsters through both your character and the ground makes it seem a bit cheap, and it looks like the fights are trying to be dark souls but just aren’t nearly as complex.

Quantum Breka is an impressive accomplishment in the world of gameplay padding and should be recognized for its achievements in the field. The amount of times you akwardly travel through the same areas with only slight variations in the level decor, often handicapped to only be able to walk, is a work of genius.

Does the idea of grinding through ancient mechanics that dozens of games have improved upon since to kill larger creatures with 4 other human players sound like the negatives outweigh the positives

Awesome! posted:dark souls fights are honestly easy compared to later mh fights. Yeah I am not a super big Monster Hunter fanboy but anyone who tells you it's an easy series is obviously someone that hasn't spent much time playing it. I have Monster Hunter XX on the switch and some of later game monsters take more than 90 minutes to kill. If you make a single mistake you get to start over again.
